Playtest Update 0.1.7.1

On Steam

Changes since v0.1.6

Memory scanning and exploit research

We noticed players were getting misdirected into trying to use the full address range in the default attack tool, while its a great start towards thinking about automation - it lead to confusing/frustrating gameplay when it didn't work.

So we have reworked memscan to make exploit research more deliberate and easier to read. The older range-based output showed the full memory span used by each library, which correctly indicated that every address in that range was a possible target. In practice, that encouraged broad trial-and-error attacks instead of helping players identify the meaningful points in a process.

memscan now starts with an overview of the libraries loaded by a process and how many exposed addresses each one contains. Players can then inspect a specific library with --lib to see the relevant addresses rather than treating an entire memory range as attackable.

The new rve command turns those findings into a research workflow. Players can record and prove exploit signatures, search their known research, share it, and review the signatures connected to a discovered address.

Memory addresses now represent specific leads to investigate rather than a large, ambiguous range.

Networking and hosted services

Added source-specific port forwarding, allowing gateways to restrict which remote addresses can reach an exposed service. Router-focused contracts have been updated around extracting, editing, applying, and validating router configuration.

Public hub provisioning now includes standard service controls, making it easier to manage hosted services after they are installed.

Playtest access and web tools

Added a first-launch notice explaining the playtest nature of the build, including experimentation and the possibility of world resets.

Configured in-game web servers can now optionally allow directory browsing. nmap has also been added as an alias for port scanning.

Accounts, banking, and mail

Added one-time password recovery for both banking and mailbox accounts. Players can now create and redeem bank credit codes between accounts.

Bank and mailbox registration now provide clearer validation and feedback. Saved mail attachments are more reliable, and the terminal mail client has been renamed from mailx to mail.

Desktop, browser, and missions

Browser tabs now retain form entries when switching between tabs, while completed submissions reset cleanly. The desktop now includes a master mute control and window edge snapping.

Mission evidence now uses per-contract verification tags, package install failures suggest the package needed to provide the missing command, and updated contract briefs provide clearer direction about required objectives and exploit techniques.
