Playtest Version 69 - Hunting & Cooking
On Steam
Version 69
Deer
Added deer. Does, bucks and fawns can now be found around the base and out in raids.
Deer usually travel in small herds, but you will also find plenty of loners. A deer by itself is usually a buck.
They are faster than you. You cannot simply chase one down — shoot it or cut off its escape.
Fawns are slow enough to catch. Their mothers do not take that well.
Crouching matters. Deer can spot a standing player from a long distance, and a sprinting player from even farther away.
At night, deer lie down and sleep, making them much easier to sneak up on.
Spook one deer and the rest of the herd will usually run with it.
Some bucks will charge instead of fleeing, and they hit hard.
Does with a nearby fawn may also stand their ground instead of running.
Deer now spray blood when hit, with a larger burst on the shot that kills them.
Butchering and Cooking
A dead deer becomes a lootable container. Open and search the carcass just like any other container.
Does provide 4–5 raw meat.
Bucks provide 5–8 raw meat plus both antlers.
Fawns provide 1–2 raw meat.
Meat and antlers do not stack. Eight steaks will take eight inventory slots.
Empty carcasses disappear after 10 seconds.
Carcasses that still contain loot disappear after 5 minutes.
Carcasses will never disappear while you are standing over them.
Campfires and stoves can now cook meat. Put the meat inside, leave it cooking, and come back later.
Campfires must be lit and contain meat before cooking will begin.
Stoves are always active, cook faster, and can hold more meat.
Raw meat restores 18 hunger.
Cooked meat restores 45 hunger, making cooking well worth the extra effort.
Wooden Buildings
Added the complete modular wooden building set.
The Walkie-Talkie
The Call button now lights up when extraction can actually be called and stays dark when it cannot.
Scan now blinks until a signal has been locked.
When you get close enough to call extraction, the radio automatically raises itself so the Call button is ready when you arrive.
Building
Building by hand is now twice as fast.
Manual construction now takes 6 seconds instead of 12.
Settlers still build at the previous speed.
Fixes
The Field Craft surgical kit now drops at your feet when your inventory is full instead of silently being sent to a trader reward box.
Previously, the cloth used to craft it could simply be deleted when this happened.
Fixed the stutter that could appear once settlers had assigned jobs.
The colony system was repeatedly scanning every building in the base several times per second. This has been corrected.
