The Grand Update - Patch v1.4

On Steam

NEW

The Grand Gallery is here!

- A new, more difficult map, set in the evening, with 106 paintings, 3,761 pieces, and 10 new artists!
- This map is, of course, available for the custom gallery game mode, as well as the Black & White and Janitor Mode challenge modes.

Multiplayer custom galleries!

- You can now play the game with up to 3 of your friends, with the original works or your custom images, in the custom gallery gamemode!
- You can toggle on and off joining on the menu before you start, or in the pause menu mid custom gallery run.
- Ability points and allotment are shared between players, while cooldowns stay individual to your usage.
- A broom has been added that allows you to hit your friends and make them drop pieces (this item was added specifically because my friend, in playtesting, kept stealing my pieces and preventing me from solving puzzles. Now you can't do that, Alex!)
- You can customize how you look by painting your own piece avatar in multiplayer lobbies in the settings menu -> multiplayer tab.

New Game Settings Suggestions

- When you start a new game, it now asks you which map you want, and which mode, which automatically toggles on-off certain settings for you, as well as gives you the ability to skip the tutorial.

QOL

- The piece ghost/preview has always been stickler, showing slightly lighter or darker than the placed piece. I believe it finally now correctly appears the same as when the piece is placed.

- Occipital Lobe now sends a trail of light from your feet to the nearest piece on the ground, to help with instances where the pieces are harder to locate visually.

- The map now shows where you are in the gallery (and where other players are when playing with other players) to help you orient yourself on the map.

COMMUNITY

Hey everyone! What a big update this was, one month after release and I am still very humble and grateful. I am, however, getting close to the point where I feel like I don't have more to add. There are 3 things I am evaluating for future updates: Community Workshop support, a secret temporary gamemode, and another new map.

Regarding the Community Workshop, I am torn on adding this feature. On the one hand, I LOVE the idea of a place where you all can share your custom gallery images and others can download them. There's only so much I can source and ship with the game officially, so allowing the community to do this would be such an awesome thing. HOWEVER, I worry about the moderation. I am only one guy, I have finite time, and of course other things that I need to do (this isn't my full-time job, and eventually want to work on more games). I worry that if I open the floodgates and don't opt to moderate, there will be things posted there that may be inappropriate for general consumption. But maybe that's just a me worry, I am looking into adding this feature, even if it just means taking an hour or two out of my week on a schedule to approve/disapprove people's submission. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on this.

The secret temporary gamemode... well... I don't want to give it away or else it wouldn't be secret! I can say it will be coming soon, and is a little less cozy than the base game, but it's something I messed around with very early on and have stuck in my mind. It's stuck there until it happens, so its happening.

And finally, do we want another map? Do we feel meh on a 3rd map? I personally feel like a big one and a small one is enough for me, but I am very much not the only one playing this game. Maybe I do both maps together? Would that be fun? With every expansion of the map and puzzle piece increase, there are going to be decreased performance, cause believe it or not, doing puzzles over just like, items you place on shelves, is a little more taxing on people's systems. Let me know your thoughts!

AND FINALLY, I hope you enjoy this update. I am most excited for this update because playing together was where I always wanted this to go, so I could play with friends and my partner. I got to playtest a bit with a friend from out of town and my partner a couple weeks back, and I think it was the first time I went "oh man, I made something and it's fun and good." So that was really cool. I hope you have as much fun as I did.
