Blockshock returns: rebuilt from the ground up

On Steam

Blockshock is back, rebuilt from the ground up.

I released the original when I was first learning to code. Coming back to it meant doing more than giving the menus a polish: the game has been rewritten around the simple pleasure of a paddle, a ball and a screen full of blocks waiting to fall.

This is a free update for everyone who already owns Blockshock. It arrives in the same Steam library entry; there is no new game or DLC to buy.

Relaunch celebration: 50% off from 9 September at 10 am Pacific to 16 September at 10 am Pacific. If you are new to Blockshock, this is a chance to join the adventure. Existing owners receive the complete rebuild at no extra cost.

Classic paddle. New adventure.

Aim your returns from the paddle edges, catch falling power-ups and turn a well-placed shot into a satisfying chain of shattered stone. Portals change the path ahead, enchanted orbs give you new options, and a limited recall can help rescue a difficult shot.

The new campaign takes you through 24 rooms across three ancient temples: overgrown ruins, shimmering tidal chambers and glowing ember vaults. Each temple ends with a guardian encounter, from the Verdant Warden to the Tidal Oracle and the Sunless King.

Every cleared room counts

Take your treasure back to the workshop and build towards your next breakthrough:

  • Six permanent upgrade tracks to improve your loadout.
  • Four orb enchantments to unlock.
  • Twelve illustrated relics to recover and collect.
  • Nineteen new Steam achievements, alongside the original achievements.
  • Three medals in every room, with faster clears, careful play and bigger chains to chase on return visits.

The ruins have come to life

Blockshock has a new pixel-art look, animated level backgrounds, clearer power-up symbols and a new launcher icon. A twelve-theme instrumental soundtrack follows the journey through the temples, deeper chambers and guardians, with dedicated workshop and ending music and smooth transitions between tracks.

Play at your own pace

Play with mouse, keyboard or controller. Keyboard remapping, assist mode, reduced motion and optional scanlines let you adjust the experience. Progress and upgrades save locally between sessions.

Returning to Blockshock

Let Steam finish the update, then launch the game from your library. If you opted into the preview, select the default branch to receive the public release.

The original 2018 version is preserved on the legacy-2018 branch. To revisit it, open the game's Properties in your Steam library, go to Betas and select legacy-2018. The rebuild starts its own adventure; progress from the original version does not transfer.

Thank you to everyone who played Blockshock, shared feedback or gave it a chance when I was starting out. If you return to the ruins, I would love to hear how the new game feels. Please use the Steam discussions to share feedback or report a problem, including the room, your controls and what happened.

See you in the temples,
Jack / Vox Studios
