🔪 Bug Fixes 1.3.7 — The Prep Cook Was Not On The Menu
A boss who kept turning up 40 seconds into a fresh run, a minigun upgrade that cost nothing, and two different reasons your frame rate was hitching. All caught, all measured, all fixed.
🔪 The Level 1 Ambush
- 😰 THE PREP COOK was gatecrashing wave 1 of level 1 — a full boss, at full health, while you were still holding a Pea Shooter. Unwinnable, and it happened roughly half the time.
- 🏟️ The culprit: peeking at Boss Rush and backing out left the mode armed. Pressing PLAY afterwards ran your "normal" campaign as a Boss Rush — where wave 1 is a boss wave. It never looked like one because your run history recorded it as an ordinary Level 1 death.
- ✅ Backing out of anything now properly puts the mode back. Run history records the mode too, so nothing can hide like that again.
💰 The Obliterator Was Free
- 🆓 Every weapon evolution was priced at 0 gold in Nonna's cart — buy The Obliterator for nothing, sell it back for 1g. Not exactly the reward for maxing a Mincegun.
- 🏷️ Evolutions are now priced off the weapon they came from with a proper premium. The Obliterator is 540g, and sells back for what a Legendary evolution is actually worth.
🎮 Controller: The Village Was Unreachable
- 🗺️ La Biblioteca, the colosseum and the challengers' camp could not be reached on a pad. Pushing RIGHT — the direction the village visibly is — walked you off to the settings button and stopped.
- 🧭 RIGHT now walks the whole street and hillside: menu → Nonna's door → La Biblioteca → the colosseum → the camp → the corner buttons, and back again.
- 🔦 A landmark you focused was drawing its gold ring behind the giant mascot meatball, so landing on one looked like losing focus entirely. It sits on top now.
- ▶️ RIGHT from PLAY reaches the LOAD button instead of skipping past it.
🧨 The Bullet Hell Matrix Stutter
- 🌀 Extra bullet streams were riding your weapon's fire rate — so the same item cost 27 bullets a second on a Pea Shooter and 320 a second on The Obliterator. Stacking them on a fast gun was a slideshow.
- ⏱️ Streams now fire on their own steady rhythm whatever you're holding. Anything slower than eight shots a second is completely untouched.
- 📉 Measured on an Obliterator with all 8 streams: bullets on screen down from ~270 to ~55, and the frame rate in the worst moments up by about 60%.
👨🍳 The Chef-Hat Ones
- 🎩 Sous-Chefs — the pale ones in the toque that pulse a ring and speed up everything near them — were tanking the frame rate in packs. Two separate reasons.
- 🖌️ Every enemy with its pathfinding was redrawing itself from scratch every single frame, opting the whole kitchen brigade out of the optimisation the swarm relies on.
- 💍 And the toque and its expedite ring were being drawn the expensive way, right down to an alpha nobody can see.
- 📈 On a Sous-Chef-heavy wave that's about 20% less drawing work and roughly half again the frame rate.
⏱️ The Mortadella Mortar Has A Reload
- 🧨 It always did — the cooldown between shells is its reload — but the HUD labelled it "MELEE" and hid the bar, so a 1.7-second shell cycle had no readout at all.
- 📊 Mortars, mines, tethers, arc weapons and thrown weapons now name themselves and show the bar filling between shots.
Still on the stove: one report we haven't cracked yet — a long freeze on the wave load after stacking bullet streams. We've ruled out several suspects and the hunt continues, so if it happens to you, tell us what you were holding. 🍲
Buon appetito! ❤️
