Thanks to everyone who's sent feedback so far, and especially to Rory for the first Linux report. Nearly everything below came straight from it.

Reminder Feedback link after you've had a play (preferably after the tip mission but ok at any time): https://forms.gle/XToNWWJw71NSDPUh7Bug Report Link (you can now click a button in-game using the F1 playtest menu → Copy Diagnostics to fill out the second box on the report faster): https://forms.gle/aHuhBeV16DjZhsna9

Spent a lot of time on optimisation and I hope it helps - the Tip performance problem got taken apart properly this time and should hopefully run smoother - please report if not.

If performance is still poor for you, please send a report with your quality preset and hardware - there's a Copy Diagnostics button in the playtest tools panel (F1) that you can paste into the Google Form.

GRAPHICS SETTINGS - NEW

There's now a proper settings screen with General, Video and Audio tabs.

  • Three quality presets: Low, Medium and High, plus Custom if you want to set things yourself. New installs default to Medium.

  • Video options: resolution, window mode, VSync, framerate cap, anti-aliasing, render scale, shadow distance, texture quality and effects density.

  • If the game runs badly for you, drop to Low first. It cuts shadows, ambient occlusion, render scale and effect density together.

  • Everything saves between sessions.

  • Resolutions below 1280×720 are no longer offered as the menus became unusable under those sizes.

PERFORMANCE

  • Large reworking of how the game submits work to your graphics card. The Tip now runs roughly 40–70% faster during heavy burns on the same hardware.

  • Memory use during a Tip run dropped by around 3GB.

  • Anti-aliasing switched from MSAA to SMAA, better coverage of fences, foliage and fire, and cheaper.

  • Opening the phone was costing a noticeable hitch. It was rebuilding a screen you weren't looking at every time. Fixed.

  • The Tip was dark so brightened it up a little.

FIXES

  • Achievements should now actually record. They were being earned and thrown away.

  • Fixed an issue where empty item groups would never clean themselves up after being burned.

MONEY

  • The balance should no longer dips downwards before counting up. It now only ever moves when a money chip lands on it, and counts up from wherever it currently sits.

  • Money flying to your balance no longer silently fails when a job panel closes mid-animation.

  • Burning certain street items now correctly FINES you instead of paying out. Some of it was was accidentally earning you money.

  • Bigger street bags now cost you more than small ones.

PHONE

  • Fixed "{Name} is typing..." getting stuck on screen or reappearing after you'd already read a message.

  • The unread/job/shop badges should now clears properly once you've read a message or viewed the appropriate tab.

  • The unread badge now survives saving and loading.

MOVEMENT

  • Sprinting into a jump now keeps your speed. Previously you dropped to walking pace the moment you left the ground.

  • Running off a ledge keeps your speed too.

  • You can no longer start a crouch in mid-air. Crouching before you fall still works.

  • Heavy tools now reduce your jump height. The industrial blowtorch and the flamethrower are not light, and it shows.

PERFORMANCE

  • Fixed a scoring system that kept running during offsite jobs when it had no business doing so. This was costing framerate at the Tip and got worse the more you burned.

  • Fixed pile bonuses from an offsite job occasionally paying out after you'd already travelled home.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • It's still not obvious enough which items belong to a job. The highlight ping is next.

  • Walking into the back of a copper still gets you nicked. They should have to be facing you.

  • Fire can render through some skips and container walls at the Tip.

Keep the reports coming. The feedback button / link goes straight to me.
