Major Update: Grammar Content, Guided Mode, Achievements, New Languages & More!

On Steam

One of Our Biggest Updates Yet: Grammar, Guided Mode, Achievements & More!

This is one of our biggest WonderLang updates yet! It introduces major improvements to grammar learning, navigation, pronunciation practice, accessibility, and more.

PART ONE — THE MAJOR WONDERLANG UPDATE

New Grammar Challenges — All Languages

  • New grammar challenges now appear at doors throughout the world. Each challenge teaches a grammar rule through card-ordering exercises and includes a complete explanation of the lesson.

  • The lessons adapt to your selected level. Complete beginners receive more guidance and accessible practice, while A1 and A2 players encounter more advanced grammar earlier in the adventure.

  • These challenges can be skipped if you prefer to focus on exploration, dialogue, or other learning activities.

New Enemy: Grammar Gremlins

  • Grammar Gremlins have invaded WonderLang! These enemies are difficult to damage, but answering their grammar questions correctly will stun them and leave them vulnerable.

  • Their questions review the five most recent grammar rules you encountered, helping you reinforce new concepts through combat.

21 Steam Achievements

  • WonderLang now includes 21 Steam achievements covering story progress, vocabulary mastery, quests, combat, and more.

  • Eligible achievements based on progress in an existing save can be unlocked automatically, so returning players will not need to restart the game.

  • Every unlocked achievement includes a shareable card, making it easy to celebrate your progress on social media.

World Map, Quest Tracking, and Guide Fairy

  • A complete world map now shows every region and the routes connecting them.

  • Main quests and character quests can now be tracked directly from the Journal. Activate guidance for an objective, and the game will show you the route to follow.

  • You can also summon the Guide Fairy. She appears beside your character and leads you toward your active objective.

These features are entirely optional: use them when you want direction, or disable them when you would rather explore freely.

Teaching Improvements — All Languages

  • Every selectable word in Pick challenges is now voiced. Click a word to hear its pronunciation before choosing your answer.

  • Fairy Gate challenges now provide additional explanations designed for complete beginners.

  • Longer teaching and grammar explanations have been reformatted to make them clearer and easier to read.

  • Educational dialogue is now visually highlighted, making important explanations harder to skip accidentally.

Gameplay and Quality-of-Life Improvements

  • Offline speech recognition is now supported on macOS and Steam Deck for supported languages.

  • The microphone setup and troubleshooting interface has been redesigned. You can now select which microphone WonderLang should use and test it directly inside the game.

  • Mouse pathfinding has been improved, making click-to-move navigation smoother and more reliable.

  • Gamepad-only navigation has been improved throughout the game and its menus.

  • Adjective Crystal quests can now be tracked from the Journal.

  • Many translation errors have been corrected across the different languages.

  • Numerous minor bugs and interface issues have also been fixed.

Japanese Update

  • The Kana learning module has been completely revised.

  • Kana challenges no longer require typing, making them easier to play with a gamepad or on Steam Deck.

  • New challenges and explanations have been added to introduce kana more clearly and progressively.

Korean Update

  • The Hangul learning module has been completely revised.

  • Hangul challenges no longer require typing, and additional activities now explain the writing system in more detail.

  • Korean pronunciation exercises now use a new speech-recognition engine that is considerably more accurate than the previous one.

Latin American Spanish Is Here!

WonderLang can now be played in Latin American Spanish! The entire route has been revised to provide clear, broadly understandable Latin American Spanish. Where a regional choice was necessary, we generally followed Mexican usage. The voices have also been newly recorded, primarily with Mexican accents, while a few characters feature accents from other Latin American countries.

Arabic Is Arriving Very Soon

Arabic will be released as a free DLC in the next few days. The Arabic route includes two display modes:

  • Arabic with diacritics: Small marks above or below letters indicate short vowels and other pronunciation details.

  • Arabic without diacritics: The form most commonly used in everyday Arabic writing.

You will be able to switch freely between the two modes. The DLC also includes a complete module for learning the Arabic alphabet, letter forms, joining rules, vowels, and essential reading concepts.

PART TWO — COMING SOON, SEQUEL, MOBILE VERSIONS AND GENERAL WONDERLANG NEWS

Everything below concerns future updates, other versions of WonderLang, and upcoming projects. It is not part of the update described above.

More Languages Coming Soon

European Portuguese, Russian, Eastern Armenian, and Swedish are planned for the coming weeks. The Armenian, Russian, and Swedish routes will be distributed as free DLC. This will prevent the base game from becoming significantly larger for players who do not need these languages.

More Improvements in Development

We are also working on:

  • Traditional Chinese characters for the Mandarin route, allowing players to choose between simplified and traditional characters.

  • Fully voiced masculine, feminine, and neutral dialogue variants in languages where the distinction matters.

  • More dialogue challenges adapted to your selected level, with increasingly complex sentences for A1 and A2 players.

  • Additional difficulty adjustments to make WonderLang more useful and enjoyable at every level—and more rewarding to replay in a different mode.

WonderLang Beyond Is Cooking

We will soon launch the Kickstarter campaign for WonderLang Beyond, the direct sequel to WonderLang.WonderLang Beyond will continue and conclude Ben’s story while focusing on intermediate language learning. It will feature dedicated modes for A2, B1, and B2 learners.Follow WonderLang Beyond on KickstarterEarly support makes an enormous difference on Kickstarter. Even a small pledge during the opening days can help the campaign reach more people—and support our mission to make language learning more accessible, immersive, and fun.
