11 new languages, sentence review, and your own words

major update

Playto: Learn Languages Through Games · build 24416687 · published

On SteamNotes only · this build shipped before we watched the app

This update adds a lot more languages to learn from, a new way to review whole sentences, and the option to bring in your own words.

11 more languages to learn from

You can now learn from games in Swedish, Dutch, Traditional Chinese, Greek, Romanian, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Turkish, Czech, and Hungarian, alongside the languages already supported. These newer ones are marked Experimental while we tune them — tell us how they read.

Review sentences, not just words

  • Save whole sentences from what you capture and review them with spaced repetition, right next to your saved words.

  • The Home screen now shows words and sentences side by side, each with its own daily target.

  • Session review is split into two clear steps — confirm words first, then pick the sentences to keep — with paging for longer sessions.

Bring your own words

  • Add words by hand or import a CSV/TSV list, with a profile picker and a per-row language pair.

  • Keep a separate meaning note per profile, so the same word can mean different things in different games.

The app in more languages

The Playto interface is now available in 11 more languages. These are freshly added — if something reads wrong, let us know and we'll fix it.

Better text recognition

  • Words containing accented letters (é, ü, ñ, å, ö) were sometimes dropped before they ever reached you. They now come through.

  • We removed an image-processing step that stripped accent marks before recognition, so words keep their marks instead of arriving as anvander or kaantaa.

  • Lines that belong to the same paragraph are grouped back together, instead of being split into fragments and translated apart.

Guides and help

  • A guide button now sits in the bottom-right corner throughout the app, so the walkthroughs are always one click away.

  • In-app help refers to buttons by the names you see in your own language, instead of quoting the English labels.

  • Contact us replaces the old feedback form, and lets you say whether you are reporting a bug, requesting a feature, or asking a question.

Faster first run

  • Model downloads now come from our own mirror, which was several times faster than the previous source in our testing.

  • An interrupted download resumes where it stopped instead of starting from zero.

  • When your language and your model are a poor match, Playto now tells you and lets you choose, instead of quietly switching models.

Fixes & polish

  • Smoother, faster screen capture on fixed regions.

  • A capture area sitting inside the game window is no longer mistaken for being outside it, which used to stop translation altogether.

  • Manually edited definitions are protected — regenerating no longer overwrites them or shows a confusing error.

  • Duplicate word entries are prevented when adding or importing.

  • Fixed a startup crash that could hit existing databases.
