Model Trains Playtest · build 23946695 · published
This update brings the Train Manager to life, adds new building and track tools, and sharpens the camera and screenshot tools. Under the hood we also moved to a brand new input system.
On top of all that we squashed a long list of bugs, including some pesky derailments. Here is what is new.
The new Train Manager is your home base for everything on the rails. You can spawn trains straight from the manager, browse the full train asset library, and view stats on any train so you know exactly what you are running.
Building your own rolling stock is here too: create, edit, and save your own train blueprints, then load them back in whenever you want. You can now also flip a train's direction on the fly.
Big layouts now hold up better, with long tracks rendering in multiple smaller sections so sprawling lines stay smooth.
The Shape tool lets you lay out props in different shapes, and a new playable area border around the edge of the map makes it clear exactly where you can build.
A new tilt shift camera gives your layouts that classic miniature look, now with proper focus width control.
Placing and deleting props comes with visual and audio feedback, so every action feels responsive.
Screenshot capture has been cleaned up to grab the shot you actually want.
We did a full UI polish pass across the game. Loading screens have been improved with helpful tips and messages, and tracks got a few improvements to how they interact with the terrain.
Behind the scenes, the game now runs on a new input system that lays the groundwork for better controller and device support.
Trains no longer derail after completing a loop on a loop track.
Fixed weird train spawn behaviour on loop tracks.
Fixed trains derailing on flat tracks at low speeds when entering stations and junctions.
Default mouse rotation speed has been toned down to a sensible level.
The tilt shift blur effect now works correctly, and focus width behaves as expected.
Depth of Field and Tilt Shift blur toggle buttons now stay sticky as expected.
Spacebar and Shift plus Spacebar screenshots no longer capture the UI in the frame.
Props no longer get drawn on top of tracks.
Props placed with the path tool can now be selected.
The Foliage tool no longer resets the tree count to 100 when switching from the grass tab.
Updated the loading tips text.
