RustForge Patch Notes: v3.1.0.0

"The Precision Update"

Transmission from the Forge 🎙️

"Builders and Artists, RustForge has been recalibrated, and the painting methods overhauled! I’ve heard the reports of 'ghost lines' and timing desyncs during high-speed operations. I have gutted the old timing methods and replaced them with high-frequency precise timing (Windows timing is not accurate, so I wrote a better Precision Timing Engine). Whether you’re a 1px perfectionist or a Turbo-speed speed-runner, RustForge now bends to your exact will. Glory to the Canvas!"

Patch Highlights

  • 1:1 Pixel Precision: Full support for 1px brushes ensures every fine line is preserved.

  • Voidweave Algorithm: Now unlocked and free for all users!

  • High-Precision Timing: Rewrote the painting engine to bypass Windows clock limitations.

  • Steam Integration: New achievements and live painting statistics.

  • Steam Screenshots & Uploads: Screenshot on completion now saves screenshots to your RustForge Steam folder, now you can share your art, and screenshots directly to the RustForge Steam Community Hub!

⚖️ Balancing & Logic

Painting Engine

  • Timing Logic: Migrated from Windows Thread Timing to a custom Precision Timing system that supports blazing fast speeds as low as 1ms (unsafe for now, this is the Turbo (Experimental Feature)).

  • Normal Speed: Changed from 25ms to 10ms.

  • Fast Speed: Changed from 10ms to 8ms.

  • Fastest Speed: Unchanged and remains at the "Fastest, Safest Speed", 5ms.

  • Turbo Speed: Unchanged, but will now use the true timing value of 1ms.

  • Why this matters: Standard Windows Timing is notoriously inaccurate, usually causing different speed settings to feel identical. By using a "Tight Loop" custom Precision Timing Engine system, we now have true microsecond control.

Access

  • Voidweave Algorithm: This has now transitioned from being a Premium Feature to the free-to-play build! Now everyone can use the default 64 color palette in-game and produce even higher quality art for free! (* Not compatible with the Premium DLC Adaptive Palette)

  • The Goal: We want every artist in the RustForge community to have access to our most advanced painting methods so they can still create high quality artwork.

Gameplay & Features

  • 1:1 Brush Support

    • The app now accurately paints using a 1px brush.

    • The Intent: This allows for maximum detail preservation, especially for complex designs that require fine-line accuracy.

  • Steam Statistics & Achievements

    • Added a new Painting Stats form tied directly to your Steam profile.

    • New Achievements added to track your progress in RustForge.

  • Data Integrity (Ctrl+S)

    • Added an automated Ctrl+S command upon painting completion.

    • The Fix: Fixes an issue where the "Automatically close Rust" option would kill the process before the game could autosave, causing players to lose their last few painted lines.

🔧 Fixes & UI Polishes

UI/UX Updates

  • Overhauled the Contributors UI to better honor those who helped fund our Steam Release.

  • Updated the Painting Completion and About forms for a cleaner look.

  • General polish across all menus for better readability.

Optimizations

  • App Footprint: Significantly reduced the overall file size of RustForge through code optimization.

  • Responsiveness: Improved system responsiveness by implementing smarter thread yielding.

Bugfixes

  • Timelapse Overlay: Fixed overlay bug, it was not displaying in timelapse preview regardless of setting.

  • Edge Protection: Fixed bug with edge protection methods math resulting in specks of unpainted areas.

📈 Known Issues

  • We are currently monitoring performance on lower-end CPUs when using "Turbo" speed due to the new Precision Timing Engine.
