Greetings, warriors.
We’ve been sharing glimpses of the maps, new characters, and gameplay coming in 2.0. This time, we’d like to briefly introduce the lore behind our PvE mode.
For now, we’re calling this new mode “The Byways.”
The name comes from a question you may have pondered amid your PvP battles: What became of those who could climb no further?
Along the edges of the Divine Ascent, the lingering resentment of the fallen gathers, slowly forming the Byways.
Within them, you will encounter shadows left behind by past tragedies. The fear of victims, the cruelty of tormentors, and the fervor of onlookers can all take shape as “Dreadshades” that attack intruders. Deeper within, an “Anchor” holds this suffering in place, forcing the same tragedy to unfold again and again.
The boss we introduced previously, the Lord of the Prison Gates, is one such being. His prison will be the first doorway into the Byways.
Once inside a Mind Prison, your task is to search for relics and bring them back before your way out is lost.
You will venture within, gather forgotten possessions, and uncover buried histories.
From the moment you enter, the doorway begins to narrow. Searching, lingering, and fighting disturb the beings within, while passages gradually collapse. Venture deeper, and you may find more precious relics; fight one more battle, and escape may become that much harder.
“Just one more search, then I’ll leave.” In here, you may want to think twice before saying that.
PvP and PvE fully complement each other within the lore. Following this thread, you can become a passing traveler in the Byways, seeking out rare treasures and using them to grow stronger.
From the lore to the gameplay, everything is built around a shared vision of the world.
PvE is currently in development and testing. We see it as an extension of PvP and of the game as a whole, offering a new experience that remains closely woven into the lore.
We’ll continue to share more news. Thank you for following along!
