SIM: World Cup Manager — Update Notes

This update focuses on world authenticity, squad accuracy, and a batch of gameplay fixes that came out of your feedback. Here's everything that's changed.

More nations — now 212
The playable nation list is now complete to full FIFA membership. We added Thailand plus Russia, Israel, Kuwait, Oman, Syria, North Korea, Cambodia, Guinea-Bissau, and Mauritius. Every confederation now matches its real member count (UEFA 55, CAF 54, AFC 47, and so on). Each new nation comes with its correct flag, home stadium, and region-appropriate player names, and all of them slot cleanly into World Cup qualifying, continental cups, and the finals — no qualification places were changed, the new sides simply compete for the existing slots like everyone else.

National flags now render properly everywhere
Flags are now real images across every screen — the nation picker, match headers, fixtures, standings, world rankings, news, and awards. Previously some devices showed two-letter country codes (like "ES" or "FR") instead of a flag. Flags are now bundled into the game, so they display correctly offline with no dependency on an internet connection.

Deeper, more varied squads
Every nation's name pool now has at least 100 surnames, so generated squads feel far more varied and authentic — you'll see much less repetition down a team sheet, especially for Southeast and East Asian nations that previously drew from smaller pools.

Away games are now played at the right stadium
Fixed a bug where every nation played both home and away matches at its own home ground — so if you were managing England, away fixtures still showed Wembley. Matches are now correctly staged at the actual home team's stadium. Because each stadium drives the local climate, this also fixes match weather: an away game in Brazil now gets Rio's conditions rather than London's. Neutral-venue tournament matches still correctly use the host nation's stadium, and referee selection was tidied up at the same time so officials are properly neutral.

Youth academies for smaller nations now work correctly
Fixed a bug affecting lower-ranked nations where newly generated 16-year-olds had a potential rating below their current ability — meaning they got worse every year instead of developing. Young players now always have room to grow toward a genuine ceiling, so smaller footballing nations get a realistic pipeline of improving talent. Top nations are unaffected and still produce the occasional wonderkid.

Tournament top scorers and Player of the Tournament are now accurate
Fixed a significant bug where the top scorer and Player of the Tournament for every competition were pulled from your own squad and stamped with your nationality — even for tournaments your nation can't enter (an England manager seeing an England player win the AFCON Golden Boot, for example), and often with stats that never happened. These awards now correctly go to players from the nations that actually competed, with authentic names and the right nationality. When your nation genuinely wins, your real squad is credited as before.

Custom database imports now persist
Fixed a bug where an imported CSV squad loaded correctly but was gradually replaced by randomly generated players as you played through seasons — the yearly youth intake was quietly culling your imported players. Imported players are now protected and stay in your save. (They still age and retire naturally over time, as real players do.)

Thanks as always for the feedback and bug reports — a lot of this update came straight from you. Keep them coming on Discord.
