Update 0.4.0.0

This update introduces faction mechanics to leaders and cards, adds new foes to hunt, and brings a wave of balance changes that give players more meaningful choices on every turn.

New Content

  • Faction system for leaders: Leaders now belong to a faction. Four new leaders have been added — Dour Deepdelver, Gurg the Bloated, Morrn the Collector, and Sable the Burned — each with updated abilities that require faction allies on the board to activate. The first ability requires one ally; the second requires two.
  • Foes roam the land: Three new foes have entered the market row: the Cunning Wolf, the Sneaky Rat, and the Timid Rabbit. They randomly appear and grant double their health value as prestige when defeated.

Improvements

  • Dealing damage now has a visual impact: projectiles spawn and visibly hit the enemy.
  • Destroyed foes and used action cards are now properly removed from play rather than being treated as banned.
  • Faction abilities on cards are now highlighted with colors instead of text labels.
  • A vignette effect has been added to the board.
  • When a card is destroyed, an overlay is now displayed — consistent with the banned card visual.
  • A welcome dialog has been added to the main menu with a brief introduction to the current state of the game.
  • Main menu buttons now have tooltips providing more context on each game mode.

Tweaks

  • Tollkeeper: the Exchange Rate ability has been removed.
  • Deep Mines: now has the Exchange Rate ability previously held by the Tollkeeper.
  • Trader: players now choose between drawing a card or discarding a random card from the enemy's hand. The card also now has a faction requirement.
  • Engineer: now grants 2 Zeal instead of 1. The card draw ability now has a faction requirement.
  • Innkeeper: the card draw ability now has a faction requirement.
  • Apple Task Force: players now choose between gaining Zeal and drawing a card. The ability to gain Might has been removed and replaced with a faction ability that lets players purchase a card from the market for free.
  • Tax Collector: players now choose between gaining Supplies or gaining Might.
  • Outpost: added a Hoard ability (with faction requirement) that places the next purchased card on top of the player's deck.
  • Veteran: players now choose between gaining Prestige or gaining Might.
  • Palace: the Zeal gain ability now has a faction requirement.
  • Peacemaker: players now choose between gaining Prestige or Supplies.
  • Research Laboratory: now draws two cards (with faction requirement) and grants 2 Zeal.
  • Thief: now grants 2 Zeal instead of 1, and deals 3 Might instead of 2 on a faction match.

UI/UX

  • The "Remove from Market" ability can no longer be used to remove foes from the market row.
  • Multiplayer, Skirmish, and Campaign buttons are now hidden in the main menu for this version.
  • Player profile names are now capped at 16 characters.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the market would not refill all empty slots after a foe was slain.
  • Fixed events and foes always appearing in the same fixed order.
  • Fixed foes not entering the board in exported/release builds.
  • Fixed the audio slider not aligning correctly with the 100% scale.
  • Fixed setting audio to 0 not actually muting it.
  • Fixed tooltip size overflow on the card.
