Development News: Upgrades Overhaul, “New Game+” and Sandbox

Today we’d like to tell you about the development progress of the new game modes and overhauling the upgrade screen.

Perhaps the change players have been most eager for is the upgrade screen. Previously, it consisted of a web of random upgrades, and players had little choice in what exactly to upgrade. We listened to your feedback and are now completely overhauling this system. Now, all upgrades are divided into categories, and players can choose exactly what they want to upgrade right from the start. That said, not all upgrades cost the same. In addition to the standard upgrades, each category now includes bonus, major upgrades. To unlock them, you’ll need to upgrade a certain number of standard upgrades. For example, by upgrading the radius and cooldown time of geological survey, you’ll gain access to a completely new type of geological surveying that reveals all underground locations where the selected resource is found.

Our artist has worked hard to make these screens as beautiful and user-friendly as possible. Let us know what you think!

As soon as we finish work on the upgrades screen, we’ll focus on “New Game+”. This is a mode set on a map you’re already familiar with, but with a greater element of randomness and the ability to unlock map features whenever the player chooses. You’ll also be able to choose from two suggested tasks for each object.

As we mentioned earlier, a separate programmer is working on “Sandbox” mode. Right now, he’s finishing up the most challenging part - random map generation. Here’s an example of a random map generated by the game:

This isn’t the final version. We still need to fix some bugs and add more visual variety.

That’s how game development is progressing. This summer is turning out to be quite productive :)

Do you like what we’re working on? Let us know! And thank you for playing Deep Corp!
