Hey everyone, solo dev here! Just pushed a quick update tackling some community feedback and bug reports around the Daily Challenge mode, menu navigation, piece sprites, and number formatting. Here is what has been updated:
⚔️ Pure & Fair Daily Challenge Mode
Clean & Fair Tooltips: Tooltips in Daily Challenge now strictly show fair base stats. Singleplayer buffs (King's Aura, Queen's Morale) and misleading `GPM: 0` / `Kill: 0 G` rows have been removed so you always see clear, accurate stats. Active shields from modifiers like Heavy Armor now display directly in the tooltip (`SHIELD: X 🛡️`).
Campaign Abilities & Gold Disabled: Singleplayer special abilities (Bishop's Snipe, Rook Blast, King's Aura, Queen's Morale, King's Regen, King's Midas) no longer activate during Daily Challenge runs. Moving pieces no longer shows `+0` gold floating text, and kills cleanly award `KILL!` without any gold noise.
Completion Menu & Pause Bug Fixed: Resolved a bug where finishing the Daily Challenge and pressing Pause or ESC caused the completion screen to vanish and locked the game on an empty board. ESC or Gamepad B now smoothly returns you to the Main Menu.
Main Menu HUD Restored: Fixed an annoying UI bug where opening the Daily Challenge menu and returning back to the Main Menu caused all the left HUD elements (gold, level, pause button) to disappear.
💾 Save File Protection & Auto-Recovery
Isolated Daily Saves: Daily Challenge tokens and statistics are now saved into their own isolated container in localStorage. Playing or finishing daily runs will never overwrite your campaign level, gold, or inventory.
Automatic Level Recovery: If your campaign level was accidentally reset to Level 1 by the old Daily Challenge bug, the game now automatically detects your highest reached round on startup and restores your campaign level!
🎨 Sprites & Visual Polish
Classic Knight & King Restored: Brought back the beloved original retro horse silhouette for the Knight and the classic King design.
Crisp Silhouettes: The Bishop (pointed mitre with diagonal cleft), Queen (3-point coronet crown), Rook (sturdy fortress with battlements), and Pawn (compact ball head) keep their enhanced, easily distinguishable pixel designs.
Idle Game Number Formatting: Numbers 10,000 and above now format cleanly using standard idle game notations (`10K`, `1.5M`, `2.5B`, etc.), while still letting you hover over your gold to see the exact count.
