Monster Girl Descent Rebuild Progress Report #2

Hello Monster Girl Lovers!

I'm back with another progress report for the Monster Girl Descent Unity rebuild. I'm hoping to push these out monthly where possible so that everyone knows what things are looking like.

Since the last update I've been doing a lot of work on UI elements and started work on some of the town scenes. Some of the menus and other parts are VERY placeholder right now and I'm just using simple shapes and text.

The plan is to build them out like this to get a rough feeling of how it should look, then replace them with proper menu graphics. I do have some wonderful UI graphics already, I just haven't swapped them in yet.

The King, Butler and Princess return with some new visuals.

Since I'm no longer using RPG Maker, my understanding is that some of the included graphics I was using for NPCs cannot be used anymore. So I've got a whole new set of character art to use for the townspeople of Mon.

Eventually the princess will be swapped out for a different appearance as she'll have her own scene, but not just yet.

I've done my best to try and make things clearer for the town upgrades, the menu is still a little messy and I only cobbled it together with basic text and buttons for now. But moving forward it'll give you more information, such as what reward you'll get from each level up, and so on.

I've put a lot of focus into improving the dungeon crawling UI so that HP, EXP, consumables and gold are all visible at a glance. Again, it is a little cobbled together now but functions the way I wanted it to. I took a lot of inspiration from Slay the Spire and Vampire Crawlers and eventually came up with this overall design.

I've been playing with the new UI graphics I have and been testing them out in the title screen and pause menu. This is the sort of feel I'm trying to go for. Just need to narrow it down a little more.

I've also built out an entire workshop for the engine, which lets me edit cards, enemies, items and more on the fly. Not too unlike the rpg maker database. This will make it so much easier to tweak stats and iterate things.

I'm really looking forward to getting a test build out to everyone. I'm hoping to be ready soon. The game is more or less mechanically sound at this point. I just need more time to check for bugs, build out more room types and transfer over a few more artifact abilities and card skills.

The test build will probably go up to the first boss to begin with to provide a solid loop with a beginning and and end, but also to make it a perfect little slice of the game to test for any issues or things that need tweaking before I translate the rest of the content over.

I'll be back soon with more updates!Much Love,MGGEDev
