Hey everyone,
First of all, thank you. Back in June, we put the demo for Ascenders: Beyond The Peak in your hands. You played it and shared your thoughts, at length, on where it shines and where it falls short. To this date, we see creators and press continue to pick the game up, and tell us how much they like it, which makes us extremely happy! There’s something special at the heart of Ascenders, and now, we are laser-focused on shaping up what’s next.
We are moving Early Access launch to early 2027
We know the usual line here. We need extra time to address the gaps to make this game a genre-defining one.
Nobody has made a turn-based tactical game on a mountain wall before. We are breaking new ground, with a grim tactical roguelite where the battlefield is vertical, the squad is roped together, and it turns out that when you tilt the grid, most of the genre's old answers stop working. Cover, retreat, positioning, line of sight: all need an overhaul. We want the result to be a game tactical players hold up as a standard, not a curiosity. The vision hasn’t changed, but the path to reaching it has. Your demo feedback showed us the distance between what you played in June and our vision. That means taking a step back and giving these systems the time and attention they need.
Tutorial: Your main points of feedback were about the tutorial. We heard you and are already hard at work improving it.
UI and UX: A deep rework: readability, keybinding, increasing the wall’s visibility at a glance; a tall order, but a needed one based on your feedback
Difficulty: The demo was too easy, and you told us so. We are re-tuning ascents so the mountain reveals its true nature: a living, untameable force that tests your grit, demands difficult decisions, and never lets you feel completely in control.
Game systems: Deeper systems around corrupted artifacts, the camp, character progression.
The rope, and what it costs: The rope connects you to your team and anchors you in life-threatening moments. It saves you, but sometimes the right move is to cut it and leave someone behind. If that choice doesn't weigh anything on you, Ascenders isn't Ascenders. It has to feel like a sacrifice, so we are making the rope more dangerous and more rewarding.
Atmosphere: Image, sound, and a constant sense of dread should shape the way you play, making every decision feel heavier and every step forward more uncertain. Right now, that tension isn’t strong enough, and we’re working to deepen it.
One more thing, because it is true even if every studio says it: we are building this with you. Everything you send gets read. Not all of it makes it in the game, but, as you see, the rework we are doing now started with you. We will keep showing our progress in devblogs and regular updates, including the rough parts.
If you want to help, please stay around, keep telling us when we're wrong, and wishlist the game if you haven't. The summit hasn't moved. We are just taking the better route to reach it.
See you on the wall!
