The September update is now live on Steam. Return to the pilgrimage with a new scene soundtrack, tougher battles, and clearer information when choosing upgrades and completing Litanies.

Three changes to try on your next run

  • Hear the journey change. Nine scene music tracks and fourteen replacement effects accompany exploration, combat, bosses, and the end of a run. Button sounds are softer, and overlapping playback has been addressed.
  • Make each battle count. Enemies have 30% more HP in newly started battles. Plan your damage, Ward, and use of the shared Furnace before committing to a Burn.
  • See what your choices give you. Kindle now shows the exact improvement before confirmation. The Litany display shows its reward, and completing the sequence produces a named completion message.

The 30-second opening cinematic, The Debt, sets the scene. Boss cinematics and corrected animated Keeper portraits accompany the journey.

Full changes

Audio

  • Replaced the scene soundtrack with nine music tracks covering the menu, map, events, rest, combat, elites, bosses, victory, and defeat.
  • Added fourteen replacement sound effects for combat and interface actions.
  • Separated button clicks and confirmations from combat effects, with quieter playback levels.
  • Reduced intrusive repetition and softened music ducking during combat.
  • Restored combat sound with reduced motion enabled.
  • Fixed overlapping music across scene and cinematic transitions. The victory cue plays once.
  • Preserved music-off and volume preferences when updating.

Combat balance

  • Increased enemy HP and maximum HP by 30%, rounded up, in newly started battles, including elites, bosses, summoned enemies, and Echoes.
  • Prevented repeated HP scaling after redraws, revivals, previews, or reloads.
  • Kept enemy damage, Keeper HP, and scripted practice encounters unchanged.
  • Preserved the health values of battles already in progress in older saves.

Cards and Litanies

  • Reworked Kindle into a card list, a focused preview, the exact upgrade benefit, and a separate confirmation.
  • Made Litany completion rewards visible before completing the sequence.
  • Added a completion message showing the Litany name and reward, with one completion sound.
  • Clarified when a sequence repeats. This update changes feedback, not the combination rules.

Cinematics and portraits

  • Integrated the 30-second opening cinematic, The Debt.
  • Connected cinematics before boss encounters and after defeating bosses.
  • Updated animated Keeper portraits and corrected Brother Kaminas's portrait selection.
  • Improved playback, skipping, and the return to gameplay after cinematics.

Interface

  • Moved the Litany display clear of boss names and removed Burn guidance that covered action buttons.
  • Separated act introduction text from act rules and placed map navigation below the artwork.
  • Improved alignment of battle statistics, the level indicator, and XP/level-up labels.
  • Reworked overlapping text in the end-of-run chronicle and upgrade panel.
  • Replaced generic currency flames with dedicated Cinder Shard icons.

Community13 Sep 2026Inside the Furnace: Burn, Heat & LitaniesA Burn buys a move. Heat changes the whole fight. In Ember Covenant, the Furnace belongs to both sides. Before burning a card, look at what the extra Ember lets you do — and what the hotter Furnace lets your enemy do next. Burn: the basic trade A normal Burn removes that card for the rest of the fight, grants 2 Ember, and raises shared Heat by 3. Keeper abilities, relics, and other bonuses can…
