Hey everyone. Here is a new update for goblinAmerica.
This update progresses the story and makes some substantial changes to the game. It is lighter on fully-new content than future content updates will be, and is focused more on mechanics, polish, and taking care of some back-end stuff that will make it much easier for me to add more to the game from here. Here are some of the major changes:
The Lawman requests your presence. Some quests have been extended and a new character has been introduced. These storylines are intended to act as a coda to the events of the game so far and to set the stage for the next chapter.
A new map has been added. The seers of Fallow were destroyed by senseless visions. Their Spume, Gabriel Synthesis, buried them with love. Time and rising waters have brought ruin to their resting place.
This is a small side level. Accessing it will require progressing various characters’ questlines.
Kicking. Kicking has been added to your feet.
Goblin variation. I’ve made a number of changes to give NPCs more distinction and personality. These include:
A comprehensive audio pass affecting all character voices and dialogue.
New models for a number of characters.
Variations of skin tone, build, and voices to differentiate individual goblins from one another.
Improved enemies’ combat behavior to make them more aggressive and fluid.
New enemies. I’ve made a number of back-end changes to enable adding more varied and distinctive enemy types to the game. A lot of the benefits of this work will show up in future levels, but I’ve integrated some new enemy types into existing areas.
Improved water. Water visuals and physics have been improved.
This update also includes bugfixes and performance improvements I’ve taken care of over the last two months. As this update makes a lot of substantial changes and additions to the gameplay mechanics, I do anticipate some bugs/regressions have been introduced. I’ll be focusing on fixing those for the near future, so please let me know in the discussion forum if you run into any issues.
One more thing: I’ve been seeing some frustration with the game’s requirement that you successfully exfiltrate to claim items you’ve picked up. I’m going to be taking a look at this mechanic, but I’m not yet sure what (if anything) I’ll do to it. If you feel strongly about this mechanic, would feel strongly about it being replaced or removed, etc., I would love to hear your thoughts in the game’s forums.
Thanks for playing. I’ve been working on the next batch of levels and I’m excited to share them with you. I do have to go walk my dog now,
Gil
