We’re in the home stretch — Frontier: Path of Shadows launches on September 10.

Whether you’ve already played the demo or are discovering Frontier: Path of Shadows for the first time, the full game opens up far more ways to fight, explore, and shape your journey.

Here’s what awaits you in the full version.

Turn-based combat where the battlefield matters

Combat in Frontier is built around positioning, squad synergy, equipment, and using the environment to your advantage.

Instead of moving freely across a traditional grid, your squad fights across a network of interconnected tactical points. Some offer valuable opportunities; others inflict debuffs and negative effects. And because enemies can be pushed onto them, a dangerous position can become a weapon in its own right.

Each crew member has their own abilities, with new skills opening up more tactical combinations and ways to build your squad.

Your equipment matters too. Weapons and gear now come in different rarities, giving you a steady reason to hunt for better loot and experiment with different loadouts.

Battles take place across a variety of environments, with changing layouts, objects, enemy compositions, and tactical conditions that force you to adapt rather than rely on the same strategy every time.

And if you want to put your squad to the test, the game features a roguelite extraction-style combat loop: win a battle, push deeper, and risk another encounter for a shot at increasingly valuable rewards.

Enemy AI and overall combat balance have also been refined, making opponents better at responding to the battlefield and punishing careless decisions.

Choose your own path through an open sector

Outside combat, you’re free to decide where the crew goes next. Visit planets, gather resources, take on contracts and side missions, and stumble into unexpected encounters and stories along the way.

Space itself is no longer just the distance between destinations. You’ll travel through nebulae and asteroid fields, discover drifting wrecks, and cross paths with other ships as you move through the sector.

Exploration feeds back into your relationships with its factions. Resources you collect can be handed over to different groups to build reputation, opening up another layer of decisions about who you want to support — and who you would rather keep at a distance.

You don’t have to rush the main story. Chase a job, search for resources, explore an unfamiliar planet, get yourself into trouble, or return to your next objective when you’re ready.

Uncover the truth — and shape what comes next

At the heart of Frontier: Path of Shadows is a complete nonlinear story filled with quests, characters, faction conflicts, discoveries, and difficult choices.

You play as a character bonded to an aurorite symbiont — an exceptionally rare form of sentient crystalline life coveted by powerful forces across the sector.

As your crew follows the trail left by a devastating Interstellar War, the symbiont becomes the key to understanding what happened — and what may still be hidden among its ruins.

But it isn’t simply another tool at your disposal.

The symbiont watches how you play. It reacts to your decisions, gradually develops its own tendencies, and changes the way it interacts with you. The relationship you build with it — and the personality it forms along the way — can influence major story developments and ultimately help determine which endings you reach.

Your journey won’t be shaped by a single choice. It will be shaped by everything you do along the way.
