Demo Big Update 0.8.0 + Devlog

The Sorting Bureau · published 2 Jun 2026, 10:08 UTC

All newsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

Hey everyone. Thanks for spending time at the Bureau. Here's what's new.

More orders to sort through

The regulars came back with a lot of new requests, so the desk should feel fresh again instead of showing you the same piles. Nagisa especially: she brought in a whole batch of seashell orders, sorting by color, by size, by shape. The shells on the banner up top are hers, actually.

City sounds, now actually from Tokyo

We rebuilt the city ambience around real recordings made in Tokyo. The demo starts in late spring and slides into summer by the end, so you can hear the city wake up a little more, and the cicadas come in. It's a small thing, but it's one I wanted to get right.

Steam Next Fest — June 15

We're taking part in Steam Next Fest starting June 15. The demo will be there, and we're planning to update it a few more times during the fest, so it's worth checking back. If you enjoyed your time at the Bureau, leaving a review on the demo page genuinely helps us out, and we read every one of them. (And if you played an earlier build, don't worry, your progress carries over. Saves are compatible.)

We're reading

We go through the forum and your suggestions carefully. A good chunk of what's in the Bureau started with your ideas.

About the cat

The cat somehow ended up being the star of the game. So yes, one day you'll be able to pet him. We've also got a couple more cozy ideas for him that we're saving for later. 🐈

That's it for this one. See you at the fest.

Game update10 Sep 2026New Update 1.0.7: A lot of improvements and fixesHey everyone! We're still here, still working on the game, still fixing what you tell us to fix. Reviews, complaints, all of it. This update came out of that. Added - Right click adds an item to your handful now, and there's a toggle for it in the controls. The rest of the update is mostly about the orders themselves. - Six new orders from Hana, with construction parts. Sort them by color, or b…Game update27 Aug 2026Update 1.0.6: Order balanceOrders used to arrive with a good part of the work already done. This one is about fixing that, plus two other things that decide what lands on your desk. What changed - An order doesn't show up half sorted anymore. It could happen that more than half the things were already sitting in tidy piles by the right boxes, sometimes almost the whole desk came like that, and there was nothing left for…Game update26 Aug 2026Update 1.0.5: Controls, and settings for themSorry about the controls in 1.0.4. We changed the way things stick together, and building piles got harder instead of easier. Most of that is rolled back now, and the parts people disagree about have moved into the settings, so you can set them the way your hands like. From here on we'll be more careful with control changes, and when there's a call to make, it goes into the settings rather than…
