We waited a few days before posting this because we were honestly blown away by the numbers. Demonherd 1 sold 3,000 copies in 6 months… this game hit that in less than a week. A huge part of it is thanks to the insane amount of wishlists we managed to get — we’re almost at 30,000 now! The first game barely had 2,000, so yeah… we’re pretty damn happy with how this turned out.
Not everyone seems to be enjoying the game though. Right now the review score is lower than our first one. I’m not super surprised, to be honest. The early game in Dungeon is a lot more demanding than Demonherd 1, and maybe we didn’t do a great job explaining just how much more challenging it would be compared to the first game.
My game design philosophy has always been the same since Demonherd 1: I don’t want to make a game that’s just hard. I want it to be challenging, but in a way that feels really satisfying once you understand how everything works. A lot of people found it frustrating, sure… but a lot of people also found it genuinely fun and stimulating (in more ways than one, if you know what I mean).
If you really wanted to love the game but got stuck or frustrated in the early game, I strongly recommend joining our Discord. We’ve got a really helpful community there that’s more than happy to give you tips and help you get into the groove so you can actually enjoy Demonherd Dungeon properly.
But I’m rambling a bit, and I know walls of text aren’t great, so let me try to get your attention back real quick… here, have some boobs:
As some of you completionists might have noticed, this is a brand new scene that isn’t in the game yet. Which means it’s time to talk about all the free updates and content we have planned for the next few months!
At the end of this month we’re dropping the first big patch for Dungeon. It’ll fix all the bugs that have been reported and that we can actually fix on our end. Unfortunately some bugs are tied to the Card Combat plugin made by the guys at Myth Atelier for RPG Maker, so for those we’ll have to forward your reports to them and wait.
Extra scenes
More character skins
Card and item buffs/nerfs
New QoL features based on your feedback
New enemies or biomes
Card expansions
And like I said, all of this will be completely free. You paid for Demonherd Dungeon once, and you’ve shown with these numbers that you’re actually interested in the series. So we’re gonna do our best to keep giving you reasons to come back and explore the tight tunnels of Vinga every couple of months.
After the end-of-month patch, we’re aiming to release a free update every 2–3 months. The Demonherd Team has grown a bit since the first game, so we now have at least one artist always working on Dungeon.
Speaking of artists… one of our biggest additions is AR2RO! He’s the composer who made about 90% of Demonherd Dungeon’s soundtrack. Down below you can find our official YouTube channel where you can listen to all the character tracks plus some extras. You’ll also find some tracks by Discount Danish, who really enjoyed working on Magikania’s music.
