MapCity is now available in Early Access on Steam! Thank you to everyone who has followed the game, added it to their wishlist, or shared feedback along the way!
MapCity is a creative sandbox for designing cities directly on a map. It brings city building and map drawing together, whether you want to plan a small riverside town, develop a dense sprawling city, or connect distant areas across a wider region. The roads, buildings, and landscape are yours to shape and edit and build however you want.
I created MapCity because I love maps and city-building games, and I always found myself feeling limited by the map sizes and maximum scale you can generally achieve. So I built MapCity with scale and limitless building as top priorities.
You can begin with a blank map and build its streets, buildings, land, and water. MapCity gives you tools for working on individual details as well as rapidly creating larger layouts:
Roads and street networks. Drawing tools support curves, snapping, and angle controls so you can create anything from a regular downtown grid to streets that follow a shoreline.
Buildings and neighborhoods. You can place buildings individually or use development tools to generate roads, parcels, and buildings within an area or alongside existing streets. You can preview a layout, adjust its options, and continue editing the individual objects after adding it to the map.
Landscapes and open spaces. Editable land and water areas let you shape the surroundings, leave room for parks, and give each place its own character.
Map presentation. Layers, themes, and draw order give you control over how the map looks. You can move between a single block and a wider view to see how the pieces fit together.
Powerful layout and detailing tools. Build entire neighborhoods in one action. Parks, farms, forests, wetlands.
I have tried to make MapCity as intuitive as possible and not have much of a learning curve. For the most part, things work just how you'd expect.
Create a new blank map, or browse your installed DLC to use a real map as a starting point. Just start building anywhere, or delete an existing area in the real world map and redevelop it any way you can imagine.
I would love to see your maps and hear how you use the tools. You can share creations, suggest improvements, or report problems in the MapCity Discord. I'm sure there will be issues as we work through the beginning stages of early access but I will fix everything as quickly as I can.
Thanks for being here - this is just the beginning.
I can't wait to see what you create!
