Police investigators specialize in fingerprint evidence.

Using their fingerprint kit, Police players can collect fingerprints from other players and compare them against fingerprints found on objects throughout Whitechapel.
Collecting fingerprints requires ink, which can be purchased from vendors. Once a Police player has ink, they can take another player's fingerprints and add them to their fingerprint log. The log keeps track of which fingerprint belongs to which player, giving Police investigators a way to identify fingerprints they discover during the investigation.
That becomes especially useful when a fingerprint is found on an item connected to the murder.
Police players can compare the fingerprint on a weapon against the prints they've collected, potentially connecting a player to a weapon involved in the crime!
And fingerprints aren't necessarily harmless evidence for the Ripper, either.
If the Ripper is carrying fingerprint evidence that they haven't disclosed, other players can see that they're carrying that evidence during the investigation and conviction phases. That gives the rest of the group a reason to question why someone is holding onto evidence instead of sharing.
Of course, the Ripper knows this, too! So, they may decide to hide evidence somewhere in Whitechapel before anyone notices.
