Toki Pona joins FlashBoss

Today's update adds a fifth free pack to the base game.

I have been heavily distracted making upgrades to the game and doing work on a linked project, intended for the Autumn Next Fest: Master Odiin's Universal Keyboard. Expect messages regarding progress, including a downloadable demo — it was meant to ship last week, so: very soon.

The alternative voices have also been parked behind a huge amount of content generation work. The coming soon list is completed content that needs final editing and store pages. After that, the majority of the work is done on Russian and Latin, with other projects under consideration. Suggestions are welcome. That's why Toki Pona is being released today:

Toki Pona is a minimalist language of around 140 words. Small enough to
finish in a summer, deep enough to say almost anything by combining simple words. This pack teaches all
of it: 500 cards, from the first word to the last, with attested phrases, original example
sentences, and audio throughout. Grammar arrives exactly when you need it — each particle's
lesson fires at the card where it first appears.

Coming soon

Dates available soon. The next publication season starts in August — with the voices
guaranteed during July:

  • Castilian Spanish voice — the voice of Spain for your Spanish course: distinción
    and all.
  • Northern English voice — a warm northern accent for the English packs. It has
    character, and it teaches beautifully.
  • French — the full 3,000-word course: Core, Pareto 1, and Pareto 2, A1 to B2 and
beyond, with a native French voice.
  • Greek Roots — English vocabulary through the Greek that built science and medicine.
    The fourth Roots pack.

Voice packs install and just work — your course speaks with them, no setup.

The German overhaul

The whole 3,000-word German family was rebuilt and aligned to one smooth difficulty
curve: sentences now grow steadily in length and complexity from your first card to your
last — no sudden walls, no easy plateaus. Along the way: 182 sentences rewritten to fill
the old tier-4 difficulty crater, every true duplicate across Core and the expansions
eliminated, reflexive verbs marked with sich, articles spoken once and clearly, plural
notation colour-coded by gender, and English loanwords (Gaming, E-Mail, chatten...)
finally pronounced like German instead of letter-by-letter.

Audio and Esperanto

  • Esperanto speaks properly: a native phonemizer (correct penultimate stress, no stray
glides), truer vowels, the soft h restored, and short words like ŝi now render cleanly
    in isolation.
  • Every empty Esperanto Notes field — all 143 — filled.
  • Single words are spoken with a natural contour in every language, not just Esperanto.
  • Italian: re-taught words removed and colliding senses untangled across the family.

Saving and stability

  • Steam Cloud writes no longer stall the game ("IPC took too long" is gone for good).
  • Reviews save locally card-by-card, with cloud sync at session boundaries — faster,
    and your progress survives anything.
  • A local backup vault merges with the cloud at every launch.
  • Combat victories and badges now count consistently everywhere.

Gameplay and interface

  • The daily Epic is awarded exactly when you finish the whole day's pool — your
reviews plus your master's full new-card allocation. No more early awards, and the
remaining cards are always offered before the grimoire.
  • Redesigned Preferences hub with a Lessons submenu, Change Profile, and Delete
Profile; Tab cycles your active packs.
  • Hero names can wear their accents — display stays pretty, save files stay safe.
  • Enter confirms your current language on the Change-your-path screen.
  • Emoji alignment fixed across platforms, lesson pages sit evenly in their frames, and
screens that could overflow their borders are pinned to exact size.
  • Linux launch is more resilient: the game tries several terminal configurations
    before giving up.

These improvements are intended to reduce the friction between you and your studies, and to give you one more avenue to explore in the world of conlangs (constructed languages). The best of luck with your language learning endeavours.

Master Odiin..
