Spellfall Update 0.5.10 - More full build rounds added!

Spellfall: Last Mage Standing Playtest · published 26 Aug 2026, 15:55 UTC

This update incorporates numerous quality of life improvements and bug fixes raised though playtester feedback.

The most significant change expands total match rounds from 5 to 7. This adjustment allows players to battle it out with their full build in two additional rounds.

This is an experimental change to see how it affects pacing and overall match duration. I have not added any new UI, Guide details, or music supporting these rounds yet, so please let me know if the extra rounds are a good addition and should stay so I can plan future enhancements.

Gameplay

  • Added two additional full build rounds
    • Matches can now continue through Rounds 6 and 7.
    • No additional abilities or items are drafted after Round 5.
    • Rounds 6 and 7 begin after a short countdown, giving players additional fights with their completed builds.

  • Improved self casted buff reapplication

    • Self casted buffs, like Sanguine Pact, that can be recast before expiring will now refresh their existing duration rather than creating overlapping instances.
    • This improves several interactions with high Cooldown Reduction builds.

  • Improved Spell Anchor projectile interactions

    • Projectiles no longer collide with other projectiles cast by the same player through Spell Anchor.

Blink

  • Improved Blink visual feedback
    • Blink's departure effect now travels in the direction the mage teleported.
    • This should make it easier to track where an enemy went when they Blink out of view.

Bot Updates

  • Improved knockback consistency against bots
    • Bot movement is now briefly interrupted after receiving knockback.
    • This prevents AI movement from immediately fighting against the knockback effect.
    • This change should also address situations where a bot stops attacking for a period of time, but needs ongoing testing to confirm.

  • Updated bot behavior for additional rounds

    • Bots will now continue attacking normally during Rounds 6 and 7.
    • Bots will use their complete Round 5 ability pool during additional rounds.

  • Fixed bots occasionally teleporting at an angle

    • Bots should now remain upright when teleporting to or from moving and tilted platforms.

UI & Player Information

  • Added Attributes display
    • Players can now view their mage's current combat attributes on the expanded scoreboard.
    • Displayed values reflect the mage's current stats, including changes from items, abilities, buffs, and other effects.
    • Attributes include resources, offensive stats, defensive stats, and utility stats.
    • Note: Placement of this information is being evaluated given the space taken on the UI.

  • Expanded stat information in the Guide

    • Added additional information explaining player attributes.
    • Added base values and relevant stat ranges.
    • Clarified Critical Damage and other multiplier-based attributes.

  • Corrected scoring information in the Guide

    • Updated kill and round placement scoring to reflect their current values.

  • Fixed Spellstrike Gauntlets tooltip

    • Removed an incorrectly displayed duplicate Critical Chance value.

Other Fixes

  • Various minor fixes and improvements.

Thanks again to everyone providing feedback and bug reports during the Spellfall playtest!

With this update the demo version of Spellfall now allows players to participate in online matchmaking, including both quickplay and party FFA. It's core identity became shared with all the other projectiles, and while the initial update simply added MORE knockback to the spell balancing became more challenging. Too little knockback and the ability felt the same. Too much and players went soaring across the arena, and not in a fu…
