July is always a bit of a weird one, especially here in Denmark, as we have a lot of summer vacations taking place during this month. As a result, the monthly is a little different this time round, as we look at a new trailer and a minidoc that was released recently!
But I don't want anyone feeling like they are missing out on the regular schedule, so there's a segment with some new art and stuff at the end.
Let's get started!
July was a month with a lot of different things going on, a lot of the team has been taking some well-deserved summer vacation, and of course aside from that, we have been busy working on the game as usual.
But, despite that, we still found time to get some super cool recordings done of some of the gameplay we are trying to make and put it all together in a cool new trailer.
Have a look here:
Explaining everything that is going on in Dinolords is a fairly big task. Trying to merge two big genres with each their own traditions; RTS and ARPG/hack'n'slash, into something that feels like its own thing I dubbed hack'n'strat, is an even bigger task. And explaining and showing all that in the duration of a trailer felt like it was almost impossible to achieve, but we hope you guys like the trailer and that it shows what you can expect of Dinolords once it's ready.
Along with the awesome new trailer came some new screenshots as well:
One new pair of britches, and cleanup on isle 5, please..!
Strategize, mobilize, finalize!
Just imagine how fast you can build when you got a huge sauropod helping out!?
While these monthly posts, combined with our weekly friday showcases (which you can check out over on reddit and on our discord), we strongly believe in being open and honest in our communication about developing this game.
We talk about when things are great, when cool things are made, when things are difficult, when Unity throws a curve-ball and the game bugs out (of course impossibly any fault of our own!) and everything in between. And on top of that, we love reading and replying to all your questions and comments on the steam discussion board and everywhere else.
But sometimes, there is one medium that is just better at showing exactly how something feels, and that's video.
So, when we did our last big playtest at the beginning of the year, we had a little 'behind the scenes' minidoc put together about it, and it is finally ready for prime-time:
Finding just the right colour palette for all the dinosaurs is in the safe hands of our artist Lina, who did this incredible study in different ways to gave our Jurassic friends some 'pop', have a look:
Your lord needs some hefty armor to have even the slightest chance against big dinosaurs, here is the latest and greatest fit from the Medieval Department Store:
And lastly, a little teaser, our 3D department has been watching a lot of Godzilla and working on building destruction. We will have a much more in-depth look at this at a later point, but for now here's a still from one of the buildings feeling a little less optimal. Surely, a landlord-special makeover with a layer of paint will fix this right up?
That was all for July! I hope you all have a great summer, remember to drink water and apply sunscreen.
Catch you in the next one!
