Province: Suroste v0.2.1

Important: v0.2.1 is not compatible with saves from previous versions. Please start a new game or use the Steam Betas menu to continue playing an older version.

Enemy Loot

Enemies can now drop loot when defeated.Loot appears as a small bag on the ground and can be collected by interacting with it. Not every enemy is guaranteed to drop something, and the current selection of loot is intentionally limited.Human enemies can currently drop coins, while future updates will expand the system with additional types of loot. This system has also been created as a foundation for the upcoming alchemy system, where creatures and other sources throughout the world will provide ingredients for potions.

Dropped Items

Dropping an item from your inventory no longer destroys it.Instead, a bag containing the item is created on the ground next to the player. You can interact with the bag later to retrieve the item. The same underlying system is now used for loot dropped by defeated enemies.

Coins as World Items

Coins can now exist as physical items in the world.Coin items are not stored in the inventory like ordinary objects. Picking them up immediately adds their value to your money and removes the coin item from the world. This system is currently used for coins dropped by defeated human enemies and can also be used for other sources of money throughout the world.

Mark's Amulet

A new personal item belonging to Mark has been added to the game.Mark's amulet can now be found in the chest alongside his diary, adding another small detail to his story and the discovery of what happened to him.

Improved Resting

The sleep interface has been redesigned to use more natural resting choices instead of selecting a specific number of hours. You can now choose to sleep until dawn, sleep until sunset, or rest for a short while. This makes resting feel less mechanical and more connected to the passage of time in the world.

Improved Interior Ambience

Ambient sounds inside buildings have been revised and expanded.Previously, the same tavern ambience could be heard inside many different buildings. Interiors now use more appropriate ambience depending on the location, with new ambient sounds added to provide greater variety.

Northern Temple Improvements

The temple north of Quiet Village and the surrounding area have received additional improvements and environmental detail.

Improved Container Interactions

Container names and interaction prompts are now neutral instead of referring to every container as a chest.Previously, barrels and other storage objects could still display text such as "Chest" or "Press E to open chest." These interactions now use wording appropriate for all types of containers.

Quest Reward Notifications

Items and money received during dialogue are now clearly displayed at the top of the screen.Previously, quest rewards and other items given by NPCs could simply appear in the inventory without any notification. The game now tells you what you received and how many coins were added.

Iron Vein Mine Quest Fix

Fixed an issue with the Iron Vein Mine quest where killing the bandits before accepting the quest could make it impossible to receive the reward. The mine is now locked before the quest begins, and the key is obtained when the corresponding task is accepted. This ensures that the location and quest progress occur in the intended order.

Character Menu Key Changed

The Character menu is now opened with C instead of Space. This provides a more intuitive dedicated key for accessing character information.

Save Compatibility

Due to the changes introduced in v0.2.1, save files from previous versions are not compatible with this update.A new game is required to play v0.2.1.If you would like to continue an existing playthrough from an older version, previous builds remain available through the Steam Betas menu.Right click Province: Suroste in your Steam Library, select Properties, open Betas, and choose the appropriate legacy version.

What's Next?

The next planned update, v0.2.2, will focus on alchemy. The new loot system introduced in v0.2.1 lays part of the foundation for this update. I plan to introduce alchemy ingredients, ways to gather them throughout the world, and mining as another method of obtaining useful materials and ingredients.Work on Ashford and the larger v0.3.0 update also continues in parallel.Thank you to everyone in the Province: Suroste community for your feedback, suggestions, and bug reports. They continue to help me improve the game with every update.Thank you for playing Province: Suroste!
