CARDED: Groups to Glory · published · build 25924735

Update 1.4 is now live for CARDED: Groups to Glory.
This is one of the biggest updates to CARDED so far, introducing an entirely new way to play through Scenarios, the first story-driven campaign in The Last Chance, optional Coach Briefings, a major visual overhaul across the game and another substantial round of reliability, save and interface improvements.
Update 1.4 is about giving CARDED more structure, more personality and more clarity — whether you are playing through the full tournament experience or taking on a shorter, more focused challenge.
It also represents the largest visual and structural pass the game has received since launch.
Update 1.4 introduces Scenarios, a new permanent game mode built around shorter, more focused campaigns with their own teams, circumstances, objectives and progression.
Unlike a standard run, a Scenario can place you directly into a specific football situation and ask you to find a way through it using CARDED’s existing systems.
Scenarios can feature their own:
teams and squads
fixture structures
starting resources
coaching situations
rewards
match objectives
story beats
unlock conditions
Coach Briefings
The Scenario framework has been designed so future updates can introduce completely different challenges without changing the core rules of CARDED.
The Scenario controls the circumstances. CARDED’s real mechanics still determine what happens on the pitch.
The first Scenario is The Last Chance.
You take charge of an Under-18 national team in the middle of a disastrous qualification campaign.
The previous manager has already gone five matches without a win, leaving the team with just two points and almost no margin for error.
Three qualifiers remain.
Three wins are required.
The Last Chance is a short, replayable three-match campaign built around recovering a season that is already on the brink of collapse.
You will need to:
stabilise the squad
work with limited resources
develop your coaching staff
improve the team between matches
make use of Training Cards
respond to Events and Dilemmas
build enough performance to survive all three qualifiers
The campaign begins with five playable Under-18 nations, each with its own squad identity and Academy Trait.
Completing them all also reveals an additional hidden challenge.
The Last Chance introduces a dedicated set of youth squads built specifically for the Scenario.
These teams have their own player pools, opponents and progression structure while still using the same core attribute, tactic, Form, Coach and match systems found throughout CARDED.
Each playable U18 nation also receives its own Academy Trait, helping the teams feel different from the opening match.
Youth players also use their own backing and progression presentation so the Scenario remains visually distinct from the main tournament campaign.
The Last Chance can be played with optional Coach Briefings.
Coach Briefings are designed to explain CARDED’s real systems while you are actually using them rather than placing the player inside a separate tutorial environment.
Briefings can guide you through areas including:
Tactics
Attributes
Player selection
Training
Training Cards
Coach Packs
Coaching Courses
Match Preview
Match Calculation
post-match rewards
Events and Dilemmas
Everything demonstrated through a Coach Briefing works the same way in a normal CARDED run.
Guidance can also be skipped at any time, allowing The Last Chance to be replayed as a normal challenge once you already understand the systems.
Match Calculation has received one of the largest presentation upgrades in the update.
The calculation now provides much clearer information about how your team’s final Performance has been created.
The calculation strip now breaks down areas such as:
Tactic contribution
Attribute contribution
Player contribution
Quality
Control
Performance multipliers
final Performance
required Performance
Coach effects and other modifiers are also represented more clearly so unusually strong combinations are easier to understand rather than appearing as unexplained numbers.
The goal is to keep the underlying unpredictability of CARDED while making it much easier to understand why a result happened.
Update 1.4 includes the largest visual consistency pass CARDED has received so far.
Many of the game’s major screens have been rebuilt, reorganised or polished to create a much more consistent visual language across the entire run.
Areas receiving substantial work include:
Main Menu
Profile
Profile Statistics
Team Selection
Training
Press
Events and Dilemmas
Run Information
Fixtures
Knockout Bracket
Tournament Centre
Match Preview
Match Calculation
Match Result
Performance Review
Coach Packs
Glossary
The result is a much more unified presentation across menus, matchday screens, rewards and campaign management.
The Profile screen has been expanded into a more complete career headquarters.
The new presentation places greater emphasis on your long-term progression across CARDED rather than treating the Profile as a simple save-selection screen.
The updated Profile experience includes:
clearer active-profile hierarchy
career progression presentation
XP progress
persistent resources
career summary information
safer profile management
clearer destructive Reset handling
Profile Statistics has been rebuilt into a dedicated career analytics screen.
The game can now present much more information about your history across multiple runs, including areas such as:
overall performance
experience
career breadth
nation discoveries
highest stages reached
highest difficulties completed
career upgrades
long-term progression
This gives CARDED a stronger sense of progression beyond the outcome of a single tournament.
Coaches now use a much more consistent visual system throughout CARDED.
Your active staff, Coach Pack candidates, replacement choices and Performance Review options now share the same Coach Card presentation instead of being represented differently across multiple screens.
Coach Cards now communicate areas such as:
Coach identity
rarity
family
Enhanced status
effect summary
selection and eligibility state
Large Coach Packs now scroll horizontally rather than shrinking candidates until they become unreadable.
Full coaching staffs can also replace existing staff directly when opening a new Coach Pack.
Coaching Courses have received another round of usability and reliability improvements.
Coach selection is now clearer, Enhanced status is easier to understand and Course application integrates more consistently with the shared Coach Card system.
Behind the scenes, Course transactions have also received additional save and resume protections.
Run Information has continued to evolve in Update 1.4.
Fixture presentation now reveals the tournament progressively rather than exposing future opponents and later competition phases before they are relevant.
Completed fixtures and the current phase remain available while future phases stay hidden until the run reaches them.
This keeps the tournament easier to follow and allows future opponents to retain more uncertainty.
Scenario runs also receive their own Run Information context, including current objectives, points, required targets and authored fixture progression.
Tactic presentation has been standardised so tactics use their real card identity whenever they are available during a run.
CARDED now more clearly separates:
a tactic being permanently discovered
a tactic being available during the current run
a tactic currently being equipped
This means special circumstances can temporarily grant access to a tactic without incorrectly unlocking it permanently on the Profile.
Scenario progress is stored separately from normal tournament progression.
Completed Scenario teams are tracked permanently, allowing The Last Chance to be replayed while still recognising previous victories.
Scenario completion can also unlock additional content and future Scenario progression.
The underlying framework has been built to support additional Scenarios in future updates without requiring each one to rewrite CARDED’s core systems.
A significant amount of Update 1.4 has once again been spent on save and resume reliability.
Save behaviour has been reviewed across areas including:
Match Calculation
Match Results
Rewards
Coach Packs
Coach replacement
Coaching Courses
Performance Review
Training
Press
Scenarios
terminal run states
Committed match results are now more strongly protected from being recalculated after reopening the game.
Unresolved Coach Packs preserve their offered candidates and replacement state rather than regenerating a different pack after loading.
Terminal runs are also retired more safely so completed, failed or abandoned campaigns cannot incorrectly return through Continue.
Update 1.4 includes additional safeguards to keep Scenario progression and normal tournament progression isolated from one another.
Scenario fixtures, opponents, completion states and recovery logic now retain their own authority instead of accidentally passing through Original Mode tournament recovery systems.
This work is mostly invisible during normal play, but it provides an important foundation for future Scenario content.
A large reliability pass has also been completed across the main tournament experience.
Work includes improvements to:
fixture identity
opponent presentation
completed match snapshots
Coach effect conditions
match result authority
statistics recording
Form processing
reward completion
qualification progression
run completion
These changes are intended to make longer runs safer and reduce the chance that presentation, save state and tournament state fall out of sync.
Dynamic screens such as Coach Packs, Rewards, Training Cards, Press and Events now share stronger lifecycle handling when panels are rebuilt or replaced.
This work reduces the chance of retired buttons or interface elements continuing to receive input after a screen transition.
Controller focus, horizontal scrolling, Skip actions, Cancel behaviour and dynamic card selection have also received additional attention throughout the update.
Update 1.4 also includes a substantial amount of work that players may never directly see.
The project has received broad internal cleanup, including:
removal of obsolete code paths
fewer duplicated interface systems
more consistent card presentation
faster indexed content lookups
reduced unnecessary UI allocation
improved resource validation
stronger save-state validation
improved release-build validation
The goal is not only to improve Update 1.4 itself, but to make future CARDED development easier and safer.
Update 1.4 began as a smaller update and grew into a much larger overhaul of CARDED’s structure, presentation and reliability.
Scenarios now give the game a completely new format for telling shorter football stories and creating focused challenges.
Coach Briefings provide a new way to learn CARDED through real gameplay.
The visual overhaul makes the game more consistent across almost every major screen.
And the work completed behind the scenes gives future updates a much stronger foundation to build upon.
The Last Chance is only the first Scenario.
There is much more planned for CARDED as development continues toward the next major stages of the game.
Thank you to everyone who has continued playing, sharing feedback and following the development of CARDED: Groups to Glory.
Update 1.4 is the biggest step yet toward making CARDED a deeper, more polished and more replayable football card-management experience.
Good luck with The Last Chance, good luck with your next tournament run — and as always, good luck chasing the trophy.
