August 2026 Patch Notes + MCM Birmingham Expo

Hello! Another smallish update to Acts I and II. Changes are as follows:

Act I Version 1.6 - August 3rd 2026

- Rewrote a good few textboxes for clarity and flow

- Replaced most of the ingame header graphics (i.e. 'Act I', 'Six Months Later')

- Replaced the Battle of Wits and Route Choice UI graphics

- Added an additional dialogue choice to Gottfried's second scene (inc. a potential additional affection point)

- Fixed a very embarrassing error in which the answer to a Battle of Wits question is casually given to you very shortly before the question is asked (how did that survive... a million editing passes...)

- Changed most of the scene transitions to make the music start a little more naturally

- Made slight adjustments to some SFX levels

Act II Version 1.5 - August 3rd 2026

- Rewrote some textboxes for clarity and flow

- Replaced most of the ingame header graphics (i.e. 'Act I', 'Six Months Later')

- Replaced the Battle of Wits and Route Choice UI graphics

- Fixed a graphical error with four of Kettle's sprites having a strange outline in places

- Updated a remaining medic's insignia in a piece of bonus art

- Incorporated umlauts into the names of non-appearing characters Bergström, Lüderitz, Röchling and Vögler

- Changed some non-appearing place names to fit better with the lore ('Fenshire', 'Fouchard')

- Changed most of the scene transitions to make the music start a little more naturally

- Made slight adjustments to some SFX levels

In other news! Because We’re Here is exhibiting at the MCM Comic Con expo in Birmingham (UK) this weekend (Friday 7th-Sunday 9th August 2026). Specifically, it’s been selected for the Leftfield Collection, a wonderful-looking indie/alternative/art-game section. I'm very excited to see the other games there!

BWH was previously selected for the Leftfield Collection at EGX Rezzed in London, but it was the March 2020 event… so, for obvious reasons, that didn’t go ahead. I'm absolutely thrilled to finally be attending, and after such a long gap. Acts I and II are 40% off for the next week to coincide with Leftfield. So if you’re anywhere in the vicinity this weekend, absolutely do come and say hello! We’ve got stickers, fridge magnets (homemade!) and some lovely postcard-style flyers to give out (thanks to LadyMeowsith! You can see a sneak preview in this blog post's cover image). There'll also be a playable demo with three scenes from Acts I + II.Friend of BWH (and very good company) Ben Swithen will be there too, with Trans Theft Horso. So it's a double whammy!Anyway. Acts III + IV are progressing well - watch this space! Still very much on for a Q3 2026 release.
