Big Demo Update + Lonely Space Joins Cyberpunk Fest!

Hello everyone!

I'm still working hard developing Lonely Space, and over the past few weeks, a big part of that work went into updating the demo. It's now live, and Lonely Space is also taking part in Steam Cyberpunk Fest, so there's no better moment to jump in. Play it, break it, and leave me your feedback; it genuinely shapes where the game goes next.

For those just finding the game: Lonely Space is an old-school sci-fi immersive sim inspired by System Shock 2, Dead Space, and Prey. You wake up from hibernation aboard the Cassiopeia Space Station to find your crew gone, the halls overrun by mutated personnel, and the security system out for your blood. How you survive is up to you: brute force, stealth, hacking, psionics, or any mix of them. And when the ammo runs dry, a severed head throws surprisingly well.

Here's the full list of what's changed in the demo:

New Mechanics and Systems

  • New hacking system with a new mini-game for hacking vending machines, doors, and boxes.

  • New Injector/Extractor tool. Extract blood and other fluids from enemies and corpses, or inject a neurotoxin to neutralize opponents without killing them.

  • UV lamps now reveal fingerprints on password entry panels.

  • Energy bridges. When deactivated, all enemies and items on them fall.

  • Vending machines drop a random item when hacked.

  • Intelligent loot system. Some crates give you the items you need at that moment.

  • Gas cylinders now detonate on impact if the impact force exceeds the threshold.

  • EMP grenades and the Tesla Gun now turn off energy bridges and walls.

  • A spark or another fire source can now ignite acid clouds.

Levels and Environment

  • Station deck maps. You can download deck maps from security computers.

  • The intro level has been significantly expanded, with a new tutorial section.

  • 5 new posters made by an artist.

  • All demo audio logs have been revoiced by professional voice actors.

New Objects and Weapons

  • New object: Charging Station. Recharge energy weapons and your psionic energy.

  • New item: Empty Syringe. Using any stimulant leaves an empty syringe, which can be used to craft new stimulants.

  • New item: Tablet with notes.

  • New item: Glass test tube.

  • Organs. Any organic enemy has a chance of yielding an organ, which can be used for research and crafting in the lab. Researching organs also gives you an advantage over that enemy type.

Enemies

  • New enemy: Monkey.

  • New enemies: Tentacles.

  • Humanoid enemies can now be found sleeping, with reduced perception.

  • Rebalanced enemy reactions to the player.

  • Enemies now wait for doors to open fully instead of passing through half-open ones.

  • Added long dashes and jumps for some enemy types.

  • Thrown rats now deal damage to enemies.

Player

  • New software: Energy injectors viewer.

  • Improved neural interface software now shortens the time during quick weapon panel access.

  • New module: Night Vision. Unlike a flashlight, it doesn't alert enemies in the dark.

  • New module: Repairman. Repair simple breakdowns and improve repair efficiency.

  • The Psionic Amplifier Module now lets you use Psionic Vision instead of a flashlight.

  • The Telekinesis skill can now destroy security cameras.

  • The True Vision skill now reveals UV messages.

  • The Push skill now fires at an enemy or object straight from your hands.

  • Inventory improvements: swap items or groups of items, hotkey tips for inventory operations, an item rotation hint, grenades can be assigned to the quick access panel, the quick access bar shows the total number of available consumables, and tons of inventory bugs fixed.

  • Research: upgrade regular ammo to incendiary or corrosive using the organs of the corresponding eggs, and the research menu now shows the number of recipes currently available.

  • The flashlight now has a limited energy charge that recharges when turned off.

  • Agility now affects player visibility, movement noise, and stealth damage.

  • Major changes to the stealth mechanics.

  • Improved movable object handling.

Fixes and Improvements

  • Improved view for cameras, turrets, and robots via security terminals.

  • Access card information is now stored in the player's media.

  • Fixed a bug with large items disappearing from containers.

  • Drawers and lockers now remember their open/close status when loading a save.

  • Fixed a bug with combat music not turning off.

  • Fixed oil spreading when pouring it into holes between pipes under the ceiling.

  • Fixed a shotgun shooting blocker bug.

  • Intro/Tech Bay door animation fixes.

  • Various ladder bug fixes, plus a different ladder movement sound.

  • Fixed a Slow Time skill bug.

  • The quick weapons menu max size has been increased to 32 items.

  • New setting: automatically use energy syringes.

  • Vending machines now display the selected item's description.

  • Reduced mine detonation delay.

  • Improved call elevator panels.

  • Added a slow space station rotation effect.

  • And many more.

Thanks for playing, and see you aboard the Cassiopeia!
