Hello, sailors!
In today’s devlog, we’ll introduce the main concept behind Terror: Endless Night and explain how it is brought to life through the game’s mechanics.Survival is the key word that defines Terror: Endless Night. Our ship has become trapped in the ice during a rescue mission. That alone would be enough to send chills down your spine but things get even worse when it happens during the polar night. As the ship’s commodore, your task is to ensure the survival of at least 15 crew members through the freezing darkness until the polar night finally gives way to daylight and the ice retreats enough for the ship to escape its frozen prison. Each turn and there will be 90 of them, representing the 90 days of the polar night you will have a number of important decisions to make:
How many resources and crew members should be assigned to the furnace?
How should the crew be assigned to tasks such as watch duty, icebreaking, the kitchen, or the hospital?
Which sailors should be assigned to which tasks? Sailors have specific roles, such as ice breakers, but if they become sick or exhausted, you will have to rotate your crew.
How many food rations should be distributed during each turn?
Whether and where to send expeditions in search of additional resources or clues that reveal more of the story.
Every decision you make will have an impact on the crew’s health, sanity, loyalty towards you, and the condition of the ship. But Terror: Endless Night is also a narrative game. As you play, you will uncover the history and secrets not only of the Commodore, but also of the crew and of the dark evil lurking beneath the depths of the Arctic.Your narrative choices will have a huge impact on the crew, the ship, and other major characters. They will also determine what kind of leader you become. Will you manage the ship like a madman, or become a leader who rules the entire crew with an iron fist?Or perhaps you will find another path to survival? What’s more, your story choices will determine the ending of the game.If you make too many wrong decisions, the crew may eventually mutiny against you, descend into madness from which there is no return, or simply watch as the ship is destroyed leaving the crew of the HMS Chione trapped in the ice forever. But salvation can take many different forms as well...You will discover what they are for yourself during the game. So, are you ready to try to survive this adventure?
