Hey all! We'd like to announce that we plan to release Early Access in summer of 2027. When we originally said 2026, Railborn had planned to be a single player game only for Early Access. We did some experimenting with multiplayer and found this to be so much fun, we couldn’t wait until a 1.0 release to add it. Waiting to add multiplayer is what a lot of games do – and this makes sense – because multiplayer can add a year or more to development time. We're not most games though. Hence the unexpected delay.

Q: But you said 2026
A: Ok, well, that’s isn’t a question exactly but I get your point. As a 2 person team (heck, as a 20 person team) we knew adding multiplayer would add a lot of risk and development time. But we put in an early version of multiplayer and it was a lot of fun. We had a decision: stick to the original plan, or add multiplayer early no matter what that meant so we gave you the best version of Railborn we could. We knew you’d have our backs. I totally get this is going to disappoint some of you, and that was never our intention, and we’re sorry for that!
Q: Can’t you work harder?
A: We are a 2 person team who work 7 days a week. Sometimes we forget what the sun looks like. If there was an 8th day we’d be working that too. 😊
Q: How can we help?
A: Have faith in us. Have our backs. Keep us on your wishlist and ask your friends to wishlist us. <3
Q: Why didn't you just release the demo for PvE Fest?
A: Demos are a lot of work that often do not help towards finishing the final game. In fact, demos often add more work to the final game. We’ve been trying to balance work on the demo and work on the final game.
I was at gamescom this year! The 2 of us have been heads down working on Railborn for so long sometimes we feel it's good to see what is going on in the games world. :) Things I have to report to you all from my trip:
people are VERY excited about Railborn. Many industry folks wanted to chat with us. They said we were crazy trying to accomplish this game with just 2 people. We said our community is amazing and that's what keeps us strong. 💪
there are a LOT of games (indie, AA, and AAA) being made. Like a lot.
the quality of the games being made by indies has really risen over the last 5, 10 years
gamescom had such a variety of gamers I was really motivated to see it all
the industry seems to be really unsure about the future, more than I've ever seen
train games are hot:
At the end of gamescom I was exhausted, and I'm a little too old for jet lag, but I gained a lot of ideas for the Railborn and hopefully a little extra support from some special people.
We have been regularly pulling people from this list to help playtest! We will continue to do so. If you had signed up originally:
We think you’re the best so much thanks!
You still might be selected in the near future
Sign up through the official Steam Signup on the Railborn store page whenever that appears.
If you hang out in our Discord or see our responses in the forums you hopefully see that we try to be as transparent as possible AND keep you regularly updated through blog posts and newsletter updates. Every month we give you a taste of the major aspects of development that have happened.
We are SO excited to bring you into the Early Access journey with us.
Here we go:
Private Playtests: Ongoing - Feb 2027 (this will include Demo ( testing single player), Demo (testing multi-player), Various segments of Early Access.
Demo (Public): Oct-Nov 2026 (current plan is demo up for a week, then down to iterate, repeat)
Steam Signup: Dec 2026 - March 2027 (we'd like to exhaust our first signups before moving to this)
Early Access: Summer 2027 🔱🔥😤
Reminder: We're a 2 person team. The best way to help is cheer us on, wishlist the game & get your friends/enemies to wishlist (and not to remove us from your wishlist 😊)
We’ve decided that every update to include a few pics from a recent playtest. These could be beautiful, interesting, bugs, or just a special moment. Here ya go.
This is what happens when we forget to put in the max height limit (which currently is 3 floors)
And as a reminder, please shoot out our game link to some friends for a Wishlist or two 😊 Or even better, chat about us.
