It's been a while since our last Dev Diary, and we've got quite a bit to catch you up on! This time around, we'd love to share what's been happening behind the scenes with our team, along with a few changes you might have already noticed.
From our experience at DevGAMM to community and social media updates, we welcome you to our 10th Dev Diary. Oh, and one more thing: we're officially calling you Sir Richard now. Yes, every single one of you. We'll explain that one in a bit.
In September, our team traveled to Belgrade for DevGAMM to showcase our game, where we set up our little themed booth, which, to our delight, quite a few visitors called one of the most impressive at the event !!!
A lot of people got to play The Vow, we exchanged experiences with other developers, met a bunch of cool people, and got some firsthand experience navigating the mysterious world of publisher meetings. We also got nominated for the Game Slice, where we had the chance to showcase and pitch our game, and we got 3rd place, yay!
But probably the most valuable part of DevGAMM for us was getting to watch so many people play the game live. Seeing where they got stuck and what they understood immediately, it gave us a huge amount of useful feedback. And from that, we identified what we should start working on immediately: the game becomes complex too quickly.
There are a lot of mechanics to learn from the very start, and we noticed that some players struggled to find good moves before they had enough time to understand how everything works together.
So after coming back from DevGAMM, we jumped straight into working on the next version of the demo! We’re focusing on a smoother introduction to the mechanics, updated boss fights, new tools for customizing your deck during a run, and, of course, some UI and visual improvements.
Thank you for following the development of our game and sticking around and helping us make it better and better, one of the most inspiring parts of development is simply getting to watch you play it !!!
You might have noticed a few changes to our Discord server lately: new channels, reorganized categories, and a little tidying up here and there. Well, most of that is thanks to a mysterious individual who goes by the name of Strakchy.
Who is he, you ask? He's our new Community Manager, and he'll be making sure your time in the server is as enjoyable and worthwhile as possible.
Oh, about calling you Sir Richard... Well, you can thank him for that, too. His reasoning was pretty simple - "We're basically all Sir Richard when playing the game, so why not bring that into the real world?"
And we couldn't really argue with that, so here we are - you're all Sir Richard now. Congratulations.
We've also made a refresh of our official Reddit account + our subreddit to display more up-to-date information, apart from standardizing our look and feel everywhere else.
Alongside the changes to our community platforms, we've also given our Social Media pages a much-needed refresh! Just like what we've done with Discord and Reddit, we've updated our pages with more accurate and up-to-date information about The Vow: Vampire's Curse. We'll also be posting more regularly, sharing everything from development updates to little tidbits about the game and what's happening behind the scenes.
Our goal is simple: to keep you, Sir Richard, more informed and involved in the game's development than ever before!
To celebrate all these changes, we've also got a little something planned. Alongside the announcement of this Dev Diary on Discord, we'll be kicking off a small community event. So take a gander and see what we've got in store for you!
You might be wondering, "Okay, changes to your pages, this and that. Where are the updates to the game?" - simply put, we've gathered everything we've learned so far during DevGAMM + all the feedback coming from the players, and are planning to have another update to the demo very, very soon.
Tune in to our announcements on our renewed pages this month. See you soon!
