Development Update: Shadow Challenge and Cinematic Duels

Hello, gunslingers!

The next Playtest update for AT THE READY is now in development. This update focuses on making repeated challenges more rewarding while improving the presentation of each decisive duel.

Shadow Challenge

We are developing a new single-player challenge mode.

After your first successful duel, the game records your draw timing, aim path, firing moment, and hit location to create your personal “Shadow.”

The next round begins automatically, placing you against your newly recorded best Shadow. Whenever you set a faster personal best, the Shadow updates as well—allowing your opponent to grow stronger naturally as your own skills improve.

Friends and Global Fastest Times

Shadow Challenge will also connect to Steam leaderboards, featuring:

  • Your personal best time;

  • Friends’ fastest times;

  • Global fastest times;

  • The ability to select a leaderboard player and challenge their Shadow.

Player Shadows will be stored and downloaded through Steam, with no additional account required.

Improved Duel Presentation

We are also refining how victories are presented:

  • Regular rounds will use concise victory feedback;

  • The final shot that decides the overall match will receive a more cinematic camera sequence;

  • These scenes will emphasize the draw, the shot, and the opponent’s fall without unnecessarily slowing down the duel.

These features are still in development and are not yet included in the public Playtest build. Once internal testing is complete, we will upload a new build and publish the full update notes.

If you have already played the current Playtest, please continue sharing your thoughts through the feedback survey or the Steam Discussions forum.

Thank you to every gunslinger helping us test the game.
