Seven rules hang on the wall. They are the house rules of this inn. Obey them, and dawn comes.
These past days we have been rebuilding the room the rules live in.
- Tatami relaid in the Edo-style eight-mat auspicious layout, where no four corners meet at a single point, as in a real Japanese room
- The rush weave and the seams between mats now read on screen
- The room is lit again by two lights: the lantern flame and the moonlight through the shoji
As the night deepens the lantern sinks under its own soot, and blue creeps into the room.
