With the Homecoming Update, another member of the family is making his way to Alaska - Grandpa!
He's the kind of guy who doesn't need a manual, a tutorial, or someone explaining how things work. Give him a pile of logs and a sawmill, and he'll know exactly what to do. So don't expect him to sit in a rocking chair and tell you stories all day!

You'll find him working at the sawmill, helping you turn the wood you collect into useful materials. And judging by his appearance, he's been doing this kind of work for quite some time.

For his design, we wanted him to have that classic old craftsman look. He has a big beard, a warm hat to protect him from the Alaskan cold, and a work apron that makes him look ready to get his hands dirty. His outfit also gives him a similar feel to the traditional working clothes we've used for other characters, while still making him stand out.

Grandpa is also a man of routine. A very early routine.
He gets up at 5:00 AM every morning - and apparently, that's the perfect time to wake up the entire household as well. 😄 Sounds familiar? That's what grandpas on the whole world usually do!
While everyone else would probably prefer a few more hours of sleep, Grandpa is already getting ready for work at the sawmill. After all, the wood isn't going to cut itself!

The sawmill itself was added as part of the free Homecoming Update, giving you another way to make use of the wood you gather throughout Alaska.
Once you've built the sawmill, Grandpa will help keep things running while you focus on exploring, mining, and dealing with everything else happening around you.
Talk with carpenter and Grandfather do unlock a new mini quest about upgrading a sawmill. After upgrades a sawmill can produce wood and wooden supports - very usefull for mining operations!
There's work to be done! 🪚🪵
