宿の掟 / Rules of the Inn · published

The rules are not the only thing posted on that wall.
A new element in development: writing left behind by previous guests. Someone who tried to survive a night in this room before you, setting down in thin ink how they read the rules and where they were wrong. It is only legible while the lantern burns bright, which means the decision to pour oil or quell the flame as the rules demand now has one more thing riding on it.
I got the placement wrong first. I had it sitting beside the posted rules, and the rules multiply as the nights go on. By the fourth night the boards had grown over the writing; by the seventh they had swallowed it whole. Sliding it sideways only delayed the problem.
So the writing moved below the rules, at about the height you write from your knees. Cornered people write low. I chose that position for a mechanical reason and it turned out to make more sense than what I had.
The names in the writing match the names in the ledger on the tatami. The words you read accumulate, and you will need them to open the lock on the writing box.
The free demo is out now. Three nights at this inn.
