Some Of My Favourite Point & Click Games!

Heya!

In many ways, Allogloom is a love letter to one of my favourite genres: Point-and-click adventure games! I thought it'd be fun to share some of my favourite games from the genre (and a few that inspired Allogloom along the way!)

Growing up, I only really played the point-and-click games that my grandparents gifted me. 😊

When I got a bit older and could start buying games myself, I ended up discovering loads of amazing modern ones that I absolutely fell in love with.

Here are a few that have stuck with me!

Pajama Sam

The Pajama Sam games my absolute favourites growing up!

I loved the creative puzzles and exploring all the colourful environments. There were so many fun little things to click on, and I remember always wanting to see what every object did.

My favourite was No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside. It had a slightly spookier vibe compared to the others, and I remember loving that about it. Looking back, I think that's probably where my love of creepy-but-cosy worlds started!

Machinarium

I fell in love with Amanita Design’s Machinarium almost straight away.

The hand-drawn artwork and animations are absolutely beautiful, and I loved how unique the world felt. It has such a lovely atmosphere.

One of my favourite things about it is that the story is told without any dialogue. Everything is shown through the animation and artwork, and somehow it still manages to be really sweet. I thought that was so clever!

Fran Bow

This one was a huge inspiration for Allogloom!
I absolutely loved the creepy/cute style. I've always enjoyed horror (especially with a bit of body horror and gore!), so seeing those themes in a point-and-click adventure was really exciting to me.

I also liked playing as a female protagonist, and I thought the way the game explores themes like grief and childhood trauma made the story feel really memorable.

One of my favourite parts was all the extra lore in Leon's journal. I remember reading everything because I just wanted to learn more about the world. Seeing how much care and thought had gone into the story definitely inspired me while creating the lore for Allogloom too.

Broken Age

Broken Age showed me how fresh a point-and-click adventure could feel.

The voice acting is amazing, and the painterly art style is so beautiful. Those visuals were a big inspiration for Allogloom and how I approached painting the game's environments.

It's one of those games that just feels really charming from beginning to end.

I'd love to know what some of your favourite point-and-click games are! I'm always on the lookout for more adventures to play, so let me know if you have any recommendations. Maybe I'll even discover my next favourite game through your suggestions! 👻
