Fragsurf is Evolving: Sneak Peek at the New Replay System & UI

Fragsurf's development has been a bit of a slow burn, with our last public update rolling out a year and a half ago. But behind the scenes, the work hasn't stopped. Since that last release, I've pushed 18 private builds to test and debug new features.

There are a lot of exciting things coming to Fragsurf, and we're finally getting close to our next public release: Version 4.0. This will be Fragsurf's largest update yet, setting the stage for a completely fresh combat surf experience.

Starting today and leading up to the release of 4.0, I will be dropping regular updates to share some of the new features being added.

UI Overhaul

The entire user interface of Fragsurf has been replaced with something cleaner and more intuitive. We'll start with the main menu:

Along with the menu re-design, you can see some new in-game features coming to 4.0.

Replays & Killcams

I've wanted to add replays to Fragsurf for a long time, and that time has come. Killcams were a seamless side-effect of the new replay system. When you die, you can press a button to watch how you died from your killer's perspective. Replays can be started and stopped at will, and viewed back from the main menu's new "Watch" tab.

Buy Menu

Our buy menu has always been quite basic. While re-doing the entire interface, I decided the buy menu was due for a change as well. This new radial menu is designed for flow. When you've got a feel for the menu and gun positions, picking out the exact gun you want is swift and easy.

What's Next?

There's a few spoilers already in the above gifs & screenshot, which I will dive into in the next community update. The UI refresh, replays, and killcams are only part of what 4.0 brings to the table.

Let me know what you think of the new look in the comments, I'm always open to ideas to make Fragsurf even better. Jump on our Discord if you're not in there already, https://discord.gg/fragsurf - see you in the next one!

This week, we're diving into the competitive update. Combat surf by nature is a very competitive experience. It's niche, hardcore, very difficult, but it's also very exciting and rewarding. Let's kick this off strong: in version 4.0, Fragsurf is getting a completely new competitive ex…In-game event5 Sep 2024We added +strafe, teams, and moreJoin the Fragsurf community on Discord: Timer & Tricksurf are removed. They were both built on legacy code and content which has all been stripped out to significantly reduce Fragsurf's download size on Steam (from nearly 9gb to less than 3gb). These gamemodes may come back in the future on the new codebase & content systems. For now, our main focus is combat surf. We've published a beta branch…
