Enginefall Development Update: What We’re Fixing Next

If you’ve read our previous posts, you know Steam Next Fest was A RIDE. More than 400,000 wishlists and a metric ton of feedback confirmed the excitement around Enginefall and gave us a wealth of ideas for making the game even better.

Towards the end of June, we released a video discussing that feedback. Today, we want to share what we are doing about it.

Work is ongoing, and some solutions are still taking shape. We will keep showing you what the team is cooking ahead of the next playtest.

  • We have dedicated resources to improving client and server performance, carriage streaming, and server stalls.

  • We are carrying out a full security and cheat-vector audit to identify exploits, prioritize weaknesses, and address them by risk. Cheating has no permanent magic fix, but players should never lose hard-earned progress or have their experience ruined by it. Enforcement is now a much larger focus for the team.

  • We are reworking the first-time player experience to provide clearer direction, explain the core loop, and set better expectations before you are released into the depths of the Titan.

Beyond those larger items, we have also:

  • created a dedicated combat team to make weapons behave as expected and deliver smoother gunplay as you shoot each other’s brains out across the train;

  • started improving movement so it feels less floaty and other players are easier to track. The combat team will own this work because movement is central to combat feel;

  • reinforced the UI/UX team to improve inventory, building, and crafting menus. Pickpocketing will also become clearer, so you know that missing item was taken by a cheeky little bastard rather than lost to a bug;

  • assigned a team to explore how players, especially newcomers, can have more agency over PvP encounters while preserving Enginefall’s intense, competitive, and social nature. Players should have more chances to read the danger, make a decision, and perhaps give the camper around the corner a taste of their own medicine.

We do not yet have an exact date, although we are aiming to have something worth playtesting in September. We will share the dates here and on Discord, then invite you to jump in and tell us how the changes feel.

Wishlist Enginefall or join our Discord to keep up with future playtests. In the meantime, the conductor has cracked the whip, so we have to get back to work!

Next Fest gave us a huge amount to learn from. We watched how people played, dug through your feedback, looked closely at what was working and what wasn’t, and used all of that to help shape where Enginefall goes next. Since then, the team has been taking those lessons forward, exploring new ideas…Community21 Aug 2026Behind the Team Episode #1: Building Better BasesGame development can look very different from the finished features you eventually get your hands on. Behind the Team is a new series where we’ll occasionally pull back the curtain on the people building Enginefall, what they’re working on, and some of the decisions that happen along the way. For our first entry, Joe takes a look at one of the areas we’ve been actively iterating on: Base buildi…Community13 Aug 2026The Enginefall Creator Program Is Back!The Enginefall Creator Program is officially relaunching , and applications are now open.
