New Feature Preview: Faction Quests

Greetings Scavengers!

Today, we are happy to introduce a new and upcoming feature, designed to provide more regular activities for player characters in Persist Online — we are talking about "Faction Quests".

But before we dive deeper into the feature, let us first have a quick history lesson from our very own Historian of the Enclave, Phil Wagner, and learn more about factions in the world.

"Years have passed since the old world was brought to its knees by the Undead. In the beginning, humanity barely survived — retreating into fortified strongholds and forming new communities. These factions, like The Enclave, The Thatcher Cooperative, and Legacy, fought both the Undead threat and starvation.

As the strongholds grew more secure, differences in ideology and control over scarce resources led to increasing hostilities between the different groups. Competition for food, water, weapons, and territory shaped the identity of each faction.

Today, these strongholds have evolved into small organized communities — each with its own dynamics, beliefs, and goals. But tensions between the factions remain, and the survival of the human race still depends on resources, discipline, and action..."

It is within this landscape that we introduce Faction Quests — a system designed to strengthen daily gameplay and deepen faction engagement.

What are Faction Quests?

Faction Quests are automatically generated daily missions designed to provide regular activities with meaningful variety and rewards. They are built to offer consistent gameplay opportunities, encourage deeper interaction with faction strongholds, provide player choice through varied rewards, and motivate world exploration while completing the missions.

How are Faction Quests set up?

Each Faction Quest consists of four main components:

  • Quest Difficulty – Determines the challenge that you will face.

  • Objective – What you must accomplish to complete the quest.

  • Quest Receiver (NPC) – The faction representative you have to visit to finish the quest.

  • Reward – What you receive upon quest completion.

What kind of Faction Quests are available?

In our first version of the Faction Quest system we added five different mission types to the game:

  • Kill Zombies – Missions where you have to defeat a certain amount of enemy zombies or mutants in a specific area and ring difficulty.

  • Kill Elites – Missions where you have to defeat a certain number of elite zombies or mutants in a specific ring difficulty.

  • Interact with Objects – Missions where you have to interact with a certain number of objects in the world.

  • Deliver Raw Materials – Missions where you have to deliver a specified quantity of your raw materials to a specific NPC.

  • Harvest with a Tool – Missions where you must harvest resource nodes of a specific quality a certain number of times.

What are the requirements and limits, and where can you get Faction Quests?

To unlock and accept Faction Quests in Persist Online, your character has to meet two conditions. First, your character needs to reach Character Level 10. Second, your character must have the "Trusted" reputation level with the Faction from which you want to accept a Faction Quest.

Developer Note: For the starting Faction "The Enclave" you only need to reach Character Level 10, because you already start with the "Trusted" reputation level.

Once these two conditions are met, you can interact with the Faction Board in the relevant Faction stronghold. There, you can accept up to 3 quests per day per unlocked Faction Board. Faction Quests are always generated/rolled new for each character and Quest Board. Finally, once accepted, a Faction Quest must be completed within 24 hours.

What rewards can you earn from Faction Quests?

There are many different rewards you can earn: character XP, cash, reputation, raw materials, pristine junk items, consumables and labor.

Note: In the future we plan to add a dedicated Faction Vendor, where you can also purchase faction-based items using a special currency earned through Faction Quests.

So whether you need resources or simply a clear objective to pursue, Faction Quests allow you to decide what aligns best with your goals, introducing a new rhythm to your daily life in the game.

The world has always been shaped by its factions – born from desperation, conflict, unity, and reconstruction – and with Faction Quests, that history becomes part of your fight for survival.
