Hello everyone!

This is a small update that finally finishes a bug that took several attempts to track down.

Fixed: Window layout no longer breaks after logging out

The last patch fixed the layout breaking when you closed and reopened the game. Mr. A (who wishes to remain anonymous) then found the half I'd missed: closing the game with the X button worked, and exiting through Settings worked—but logging out to the character selection screen and entering the game again caused the layout to break all over again. He also noticed something I hadn't: you didn't even need to quit the game for it to happen.

That turned out to be the key.

Returning to the character selection screen follows a different startup path than launching the game from scratch. Along that path, the interface was measuring the game window while it was still hidden, so it recorded the wrong size and never corrected itself afterward.

The bug only affected a fairly specific situation: playing in windowed mode with the interface zoom set larger than the available window space. If you normally play maximized, you would probably never have encountered it, which is a large part of why it took so long to identify.

Both startup paths now behave the same, and your interface layout and zoom settings are now preserved regardless of how you leave and re-enter the game.

Thank You

I also want to publicly thank Mr. A (who wishes to remain anonymous).

This one took four separate bug reports, complete with before-and-after screenshots and even experiments he ran himself using different window sizes.

Three of my theories about what was causing the problem turned out to be wrong.

Each time he came back with another observation that narrowed the search further, and the final one—"I don't even need to quit the game."—was the clue that finally led me to the real cause.

Sometimes the hardest bugs aren't fixed by writing more code—they're fixed by someone making one more careful observation.

Four bug reports, four fixes, and considerably more patience from him than I had any right to expect.

Thank you, Mr. A. Your persistence genuinely made Portalborn better for everyone.

Game update15 Sep 2026Portalborn — Text FixesHello again! A quick follow-up to yesterday's update. Two text problems, both promised within 24 hours, both now fixed. Skill descriptions Nine skills listed both their element and "physical damage" in the same description, which contradicted itself. Five of those were the skills that gained Earth or Wind yesterday; the other four have had the problem for a while and are fixed alongside them. T…In-game event14 Sep 2026Portalborn: Turn the TideHello everyone! This update is focused almost entirely on combat — how much damage you take, how long your abilities actually last, and how your skills interact with an enemy's turn. There are also a number of interface and reliability fixes along the way. This change list is quite a bit heavier than normal. Several changes required other systems to change with them, and things snowballed from…Community12 Sep 2026Portalborn Development UpdateHello everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates over the last few days. I’ve reached a point that a lot of developers eventually hit where I have to admit: “just fast enough” is no longer fast enough. As Portalborn has grown, it naturally takes more time to build, test, and verify changes. The biggest slowdown lately has been my automated Playwright test suite. Before I push builds live, those te…
