Hey everyone!
We've some exciting announcements / FAQ to go through which will be below :)
First of all, the demo just received an update which fixed some key issues (such as egg laying being bust on bigger creatures) and brought some more gameplay systems online.
Just quickly, we're taking part in the Earth Appreciation sale here on Steam, you can check out the sale here: https://store.steampowered.com/sale/earthappreciationfestival2026
There's some great savings to be had on some amazing games so please do check it.
Now, onto the FAQ!
Adapt is still being developed full time. the project is not dead or on life-support! Adapt is a very complicated project made by a single developer and during development we realised that more work needed to be done with some of the underlying systems. This resulted in a bit of an extended development time with not much new to show.
Instead of drip feeding updates with not much substance we decided to go a little quiet and let these behind the scenes changes be implemented. This has now been finished.
What this means is that the game is in a much better state now to start shouting about publicly.
Yes! We have a closed playtest starting soon, you can sign up for that here:

We will also have some open playtests via Steam, which you can sign up for now on the Steam page by hitting Request Access.
The playtest will be a limited time chance to play the full game, including the ability to save and load, play as your offspring, and progressThis will allow us to collect feedback and make improvements ahead of release.
We want to know what the community thinks are the most important areas that should be worked on before the game launches.
We’re aiming for Summer 2026 for a launch window.
Yes, the game will be in early access during development, to collect feedback from the community as we go.

Adapt's development plan is broken into 3 phases. Phase 1: Utopia, the pre-release phase, is currently in active development.
Information seen here primarily applies to the current development phase, but you can get a sneak peak of some more long term plans for phases 2 and 3 as well.
Yes! This should be resolved in the demo and any playtest builds. It took a while to track down and fix but it’s done now.
Yes. There's a significant rework planned for the editor system after early access release, which will allow for limb drawing, and manual body rotation, so you'll have control over the orientation of your spine, as well as leg shape, length, placement, and foot contact type. So you'll be able to manually determine if a given limb is used while standing.
There’s plans to add a region/map system to improve and gamify this process more once in early access.
Flight is planned for closer to the 1.0 release.
No. As mentioned, the game is a complex solo project and we won’t be able to support multiplayer. However, if the game is successful, the goal for any future projects would be to support multiplayer.
We’d love it to be. After 1.0, if the game is successful we will look to bring it to consoles where it makes sense to do so.
No.
