August Dev Roundup!

Hey there Retroneers!

We've got some exciting news to share with you today about how our August went. Without further ado, let's dive in!

Gameplay changes

  • Players are now given 3 charges per board, instead of 10 charges per day.

  • Charges can no longer be purchased from the company shop.

  • Runners no longer invisibly improve over the course of a day.

  • Board energy requirements and shop energy costs have been lowered to account for the previous two changes.

If you played the first playtest, you might remember the previous "Charge" system, which had you start with 10 charges that would last your entire run. This could lead to moments where the player would feel bad about pressing the button, knowing that they were expending some of a very limited resource. Giving you 3 charges per board, no matter what, leads to a much more "puzzle-like" approach to each board, and turns that frustration into satisfaction because...

  • The amount of Scrap the player can hold at any given time is now capped (starting at 10).

  • Each charge left unspent after the player solves a board increases the Scrap Cap by 5 for the day.

  • Red signals are slightly less common.

That's right, rethink your entire scrap economy! The Scrap Cap is not only fun to say, but also adds a new dimension to the day, particularly when you're a good way into it and need to consider: "Do I want to clear this board now and increase my Scrap Cap, or do I want to try to get more Scrap before finishing it?". It's a fine balancing act that we hope you'll find fun to play around with!

You could complete this board right now, for example... But that's not a lot of scrap, and you might miss out on buying a trinket!
