Alright, so! It has been mentioned that the minigames get rather samey as the game progresses. And you're right - that was the idea! (it was a bad idea). Basically, what I was thinking was that they would serve to keep you mildly occupied and apply a bit of allostatic pressure while you waited for and handled messages. And they do, buuuut also they're a drag. Just because you achieve your goals doesn't mean you fulfil your purpose. An important lesson for life - as you will find in all good erotica!
Anyway, what to do about it? I already applied one quick fix - the combo meter. Just a little something that reards you for a string of success with a screen clear. No a big deal, but, you know, something.
The game also now includes an autopilot mode, such innovation - you thought the minigames were boring to play so I've made them even more boring. Nah, the idea there is that the autopilot mode (what automatically collect positive bubbles and defuses demerits) only works on the level below your max, so you're missing out if you use it, but if you switch it on (pro-tip, it still functions if you switch the game up to double time) you can just ignore the bubbles entirely and focus fully on the messages. As such, if the minigames are monotonous you can "skip" them, while not missing out on any content.
Furthermore, I've done two more things to spice up the minigames directly. There are now bonus bubbles that will grant direct resources if caught - good luck with that, they move at double speed - and "mutators".
Mutators are variant modes that will start popping up every few days after day 8 (and increasingly thereafter) which switch up the rules of the minigames a bit. The managers will introduce and explain them. They carry risks but also rewards! New mutators will be introduced as the game progresses, again hopefully helping to lively things up a bit.
On top of that, a few of you have noticed she texts alot. She's built that way - she's your first contact and the inital connector to the rest of the case, so her message rate runs hotter than anyone's. The real issue was that when her storyline is waiting on another girl's route to catch up, she'd fill the silence by recycling small talk at full volume. She's calmer now: while she's waiting, she'll check in once a day at most.
Full change list
- Combo meter: consecutive clean clears build a streak; misses and mistakes reset it.
- Hustle: a full combo banks a Hustle - trigger it with Space (or a face button / tap on Deck) to instantly resolve every bubble on screen correctly.
- Autopilot: toggle it on the difficulty screen once you've unlocked a higher level; applies to any level below your best, full rewards for that level, popped bubbles and defused demerits included.
- Autopilot never builds combo — earning a Hustle always takes real input.
- Golden bubbles: ~rare spawn on every activity, extra fast, no penalty if missed or mis-clicked; popping one instantly pays 20% of a perfect shift's reward at your current level (shown as an on-screen "Gold bonus" flash).
- Mutator shifts: five types — Rush Hour, Red Tide, Big & Slow, Tiny & Fast, and Reversed — each remixing an activity's bubbles (Reversed skips the gym as there's no ddirectionality).
- Mutator shifts pay better, if you meet their challenge.
- Your manager always warns you in advance, before difficulty selection, so you can size your level choice accordingly.
- Mutator frequency ramps across the semester: roughly one every other day early on, roughly daily by finals, and you'll never get the same twist twice in a row for the same activity.
- New mutator types are introduced gradually, with all five in rotation by the two-thirds mark of the semester.
- Mutator shifts suspend Autopilot for that shift only .
- Quiet shifts are gone: if your phone's been silent too long during a shift, someone will text you.
- Chloe (when her story is waiting for someone else) is capped at one unprompted text per day until her story can move again.
- Steam Deck: fixed the trigger controls in the bubble game - tap to pop, hold Left Trigger + tap to defuse reds - and the in-game instructions now say exactly that.
- All new content - manager warnings, tutorials, UI - is localized in all 9 supported languages.
