Patch 0.1.008

Patch 0.1.008 is SoulScroll's most extensive update so far, led by Wind Runner, six active abilities, 52 repeatable Quests, Arise companions, expanded Head Starts and settlement progression, and major improvements to co-op, menus, audio, performance, rivers, and bridges.

Major Highlights

Wind Runner and Six Active Abilities

  • Wind Runner joins the playable roster with her own animations and three wind-based abilities: Crosswind, Gale Step, and Storm Circle.
  • Lost Guard gains Guardian's Call, Wardline, and Last Stand, giving her a new protective and controlling combat style.
  • Every ability has its own visual identity, spatial sounds, combat purpose, and repeatable upgrade Quests.

52 Repeatable Quests

  • The update adds 23 general run contracts and 29 character-ability contracts.
  • Each offer presents three random choices with clear objectives, progress tracking, time limits, and permanent rewards.
  • Successful contracts can return at higher Roman-numeral ranks, allowing their rewards to stack throughout a run.
  • Your active Quest, completed ranks, and earned rewards carry over correctly when saving, loading, or returning to a co-op run.

15 Head Starts

  • The Head Start pool has expanded to 15 different choices.
  • Nine inscriptions permanently stack a chosen character stat after every 15 personal enemy kills.
  • New options include Tenfold Ascension, Carpenter's Cache, and Arise, which lets you raise a fallen enemy as a companion.
  • Lost Guard receives a second non-repeating Head Start choice at the beginning of each run.

Raise an Enemy with Arise

  • Arise lets you raise one fallen enemy as your personal companion.
  • Raised companions retain their combat identity, gain experience, and receive selectable stat upgrades.
  • Choose between pacifistic, defensive, and aggressive behaviour through a dedicated management window.
  • Recall a living companion into storage and safely summon it again later.
  • Your companion keeps its health, experience, behaviour, and upgrades when you save, load, or return to a co-op run.

Expanded Settlement Progression

  • Greathall progression now contains 110 Bronze, Silver, and Gold tier cards across 35 settlement-upgrade families.
  • Tier prerequisites, effects, balancing, and card presentation have been reworked.
  • Selected upgrades now appear in a clear scrollable rail beside the Greathall interface.
  • Great Tower menus received clearer tier states, costs, effect tooltips, and road controls.

Reworked Rivers and Modular Bridges

  • Rivers now feature natural submerged gravel, wet mud, alluvial shore zones, varied currents, broken foam, mist, and spatial ambience.
  • Generated roads that fully cross a river automatically receive fitted, walkable modular wooden bridges.
  • Vegetation, event locations, navigation, and local connector roads now respect the river's complete water corridor.

New Menus and Clearer Information

  • The new-run screen now provides a clearer character selector, separate weapon and Scroll loadouts, ability cards, and a prominent Start Run action.
  • Ability icons beside the lower player interface show each control, current effect, and remaining cooldown at a glance.
  • The L-menu now includes dedicated Head Start, Quest, and Character pages.
  • A searchable View All Items window lists all 131 droppable weapons and Scrolls with every available tier and exact effect.
  • The Marketplace now shows ownership amounts, quantity-aware buy and sell values, clearer controls, and improved trade feedback.

More Audio, Effects, and Achievements

  • All six active abilities received extensive visual-effect and spatial-audio upgrades.
  • Quests now have dedicated sounds for offers, hold progress, milestones, time warnings, success, failure, and cooldowns.
  • 636 additional English performances expand the dialogue banks of every speaking enemy family.
  • Twenty new visible Steam achievements cover combat, construction, forging, co-op, sieges, and Valdris challenges.

Sieges, Performance, and Co-op Stability

  • Siege enemies now gain 10% additional maximum health per round, and the current increase is shown during the siege.
  • Large battles and Tier 10 settlement sieges now run more smoothly in both solo and co-op play.
  • Improved crowd navigation reduces blocked lanes, stalled enemies, and congestion around buildings.
  • Saving, loading, late joining, and reconnecting are now more reliable across character selection, abilities, Quests, Head Starts, Arise, and forging.
  • Existing saves remain compatible with the new progression.

Additional Improvements

  • Ability controls, stamina costs, descriptions, effects, and impact feedback are now clearer and more consistent.
  • Enemy corpses finish their death animations reliably and remain available long enough for Arise without blocking movement.
  • Interaction prompts, health bars, Quest trackers, inventory grids, item tooltips, and menu scaling received numerous readability fixes.
  • Scroll and weapon forging now handles occupied result slots, interrupted attempts, and Owned Items more safely.
  • Characters, Quests, Head Starts, companions, settlements, and generated locations return more reliably after loading or reconnecting.
