Hello. It is me again. Your sentient worm.
It’s so warm outside. I’m really, really struggling. You might think the dirt is nice and cool, but I don’t live in the dirt. I live in a house. A house with no air conditioning, because I’m squatting somewhere the North-East of England.
I mostly live in a house so that I can keep an eye on the developers in the basement, but I also enjoy the comforts of a nice terraced house.
I know what you’re thinking. Where did I find the money to buy a house? What real estate agent in their right mind let a worm occupy a house alone? The thing is, it’s not my house. It belongs to a family. I evade their attention for most of the day and live it up at night. I am only a worm, they can’t hear my footsteps. I don’t have feet.
You might also be wondering why the family who’s home I inhabit doesn't check the basement that I have filled with indie game devs. This is a good question, especially because developers laugh loudly with each other often, because they love each other and are friends. The family I have chosen avoid the basement for three reasons. Number one, the door is locked from the inside with a very, very good lock that I bought with my pocket money. Number two, they are scared. Number three, it’s stinky down there, and nobody wants to have to fix the smell. It’s that simple. Don’t underestimate the avoidant skill of a British family. I really am living the life of Riley here.
I digress… Monologue over. It’s time to talk to the developers. If I don’t let them yap once a month, they get really funny with me and start mouthing off. I don’t like it.
For today’s dev chat, we’re discussing Gamescom.
Hello developers. How have you been? What’s the general vibe in the basement? Did you get the coded message I sent you by tapping on the walls last week?
That was a long monologue, we can hear you, you know, it’s very distracting.
I’m hearing reports that you’re going to Gamescom. Please, don’t tease, is it true?
We’ve dug an escape tunnel using an old spoon and made a fully bespoke demo of the game especially for Gamescom. We plan to show off the game on the show floor and we’ll be chatting to lot of press and content creators along the way.
Where can we find you? For Gamescom, I mean. Not generally.
Raw Fury Booth, next to a load of high quality games! (Hall 10.1 Aisle B-21)
What will this ‘Gamescom Demo’ you speak of include?
My Cannibal Family is a pretty big, in-depth building game that you can sink hours into, but since we’re showing at a busy show, we’ve made the demo a focused 20 minute power walk through the main features. Since it’s time limited we’ve added a nice selection of mid-game weapons and traps to choose from, including a Spike Pit and some meat cleavers to choose from.
There’s a real focus on the Carnival building set for this demo, so we’ve built a Big-Top Tent, a Sideshow, complete with fire breathing mutant family member and a fun, Crusher Trap that will make pancakes out of unsuspecting Guests.
We also start you with a decent brood of four family members from the outset, so they’ll do you scrap collection, rescue and revive you if you happen to step into one of your own traps and above all, kill those disgusting Goo Worms found around your park.
“Disgusting, Goo Worms”, did you get that bit? Good.
I will pretend I did not hear you say that.. What is the main thing you want people attending Gamescom who get their hands on the demo to know about the game?
This is a supermarket cheese counter sized sample, there’s a big wheel of this stuff out the back.
Thank you for your time. I will bring you two chicken nugget Happy Meals that you have to fight over later on this evening.
We will dine on Sentient Worm soon enough...
What? No, nothing, thanks.
