Hello everyone,
I wanted to share an important update regarding Gearbound: Odyssey and this year’s Steam Next Fest.
After taking a close look at where the project currently stands, and more importantly where I want the game to go, I’ve made the decision to withdraw Gearbound: Odyssey from Steam Next Fest this year.
This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it is the right decision for the future of the game.
Over the next stretch of development, I’ll be doing a significant amount of refactoring and restructuring throughout Gearbound: Odyssey.
There are systems that need to be cleaned up, foundations that I want to strengthen, and parts of the game that I want to reconsider before continuing forward.
Some systems may be rebuilt entirely. Others may change as development continues.
Rather than rushing to prepare a demo around the deadline of Next Fest, I want to give Gearbound the time it needs so that the next time you get your hands on the game, it better represents the experience I actually want to create.
And I’m incredibly excited about what is beginning to come together.
This refactor will give me a much stronger foundation to build upon and allow me to push several ideas for Gearbound further than I could with the project in its current state.
To be clear:
Gearbound: Odyssey is not cancelled, and development is not stopping.
We are simply stepping away from this year’s Steam Next Fest so I can focus on improving the game instead of designing development around a deadline.
I would rather take the additional time now and build something I’m proud of than rush something out simply because a date is approaching.
There is still a lot ahead for Gearbound: Odyssey, and I’m very excited about the direction the project is heading.
Thank you to everyone who has followed development, shared the game, provided feedback, joined the community, or supported the project in any way.
Your support means a lot.
I’m extremely excited to show you what comes next.
See you soon.
