Today sees the launch of the first of our combat improvements updates. This first update is primarily focused on removing the automatic full heal at the end of combat, and allowing food to be eaten to restore health. We have also made a number of changes to make training combat a smoother experience. You can find all the details below.
Remember, this is only the first combat update. We will continue to make further adjustments in response to player feedback, and we already have many more improvements planned.
• You move faster when in a combat stance.
• How you automatically route to the opponent, and when you automatically strike the opponent, have been adjusted to be less likely to do something you didn't want.
• There is now a brief window at the start of an attack, during which the attack can be aborted by clicking to walk away.
• Your maximum health has been increased, so a non-quest battle with a foe at your level no longer costs almost all your health.
• You no longer regenerate all your health automatically at the end of combat.
• Quest battles have been rebalanced so they remain challenging, despite the increased player health.
• When you are defeated, you will be revived with 25% health, instead of at full health.
• You no longer regenerate health if you have been hit within the last few seconds, which means regeneration normally only happens outside of combat (unless you are very good at dodging).
• Health will slowly regenerate even while you are logged out.
• All food is now edible, and can be eaten outside of combat to heal. This includes passively cooked food.
• A new fish and chip shop has opened in Hopeport, so you don't have to level up Chef to enjoy combat, although it will be more efficient if you do.
• Food now stacks in the backpack (up to 100 per slot). The stacking of passively cooked food is unchanged.
• Passively cooked food can now be stored in the cooked meals bank.
• All potions can now be drunk both inside and outside of combat.
• Potions can be drunk in combat even if they aren't equipped.
• Healing potions now heal you instantly, rather than after a delay.
• The percentage of your health that each healing potion heals has been changed, and there is now a cap on the maximum amount of health that each healing potion can heal.
• Ebsworth now sells more kinds of healing potions. The price he charges for healing potions has been adjusted.
• Strength potions are now charge-based instead of expiring at the end of the battle.
• The two separate potion belts have been combined into a single large potion belt, which can be found on the weapons interface. Any potion can go in any slot.
• The first two potion belt slots are visible as shortcuts on the battlebar, and the last three potion belt slots remain a quest reward.
• The max hit equation has been adjusted to no longer depend on the strength of your opponent, so it doesn't weirdly go down when fighting weak opponents.
• The calculation of how much XP defeating a foe is worth has been changed to better factor in the 'challenge' of the battle. This includes crime dens.
• The stats displayed on weapons and armor have changed to reflect the new max hit equation. This doesn't mean they are weaker.
• Two-handed melee weapons have been rebalanced.
• Two-handed ranged weapons no longer have an armor penalty.
• Battles are now quicker to complete.
• Combat foes now only despawn for the player who defeated them, similar to how fishing currently works. However, the respawn delay is longer to reflect this.
• Monsters now drop extra coins on defeat, to reflect the fact that you will probably spend some money buying food/ingredients.
• Attacks now have more particle effects to make the different kinds of damage more distinctive.
• Enchantment potion reagents will now drop more consistently, and luck potions will now make them more likely to drop.
• Firrick now does infernae damage instead of necromae damage, to match the fact that all his attacks use fire.
In addition to the combat update, we have launched the tutorial for the Shipwreck world event. You must complete the tutorial before you can participate in the world event. This early release means you can complete the tutorial now, and be ready for the full launch next week.
You can start the tutorial by talking to Bryan Emmerson at the Get Wrecked Salvage Company, which can be found off Stony Coast in the north-west of Hopeport.
• The milestone switcher in the professions interface is now always visible, even if you scroll down.
• Fix a chat option incorrectly showing up on Porletta after you have completed the Battle of Fortunehold quest.
• Fix bounty boards so they refresh exactly on the hour as originally intended.
• Fix bug where a legendary salmon incorrectly appeared in both Salmon Falls and Disused Path, even though the bounty was for only one of those places.
• Due to a bug, the value of all enchantment potions was way too high and has been reduced. No compensation has been given because this was a bug, not a balancing change.
• Fix a bug where off-faction rare weapons/armor were dropping too often.
